well ill be getting a big brake kit sometime this year and i seen that the wilwood kit would be cheaper and seems better than the hi spec ones and compbrakes, i know that the kit on the site that distributes them doesnt include pads and lines but it will still work out a lot cheaper, so my question is which do i get
Brake Choices??
-
#1
-
#2wilwoods without a doubt make.
-
#3thought wilwoods didnt have dust seals?
-
#4personally wouldnt get compbrake.
hispec i have used and recommened bar the hose issue to keep an eye on.
for road use id choose them over some willwoods due to dust seals.
if you can source them get the willwoods with dust seals, the calipers are also slightly smaller than the hi spec irc so wheels are not so much of an issue. -
#5yeah think its between the hi spec and willwoods personally, im enquiring about the wilwoods see if they can do me a good deal and ill ask about the dust seals too, cheers ryan
-
#6get the smallest and lightest that will give you adequate braking. Unsprung weight is a killer for handling.
-
#7yeah i am planning on turning the car into a track car but not wanting to do it yet, i will be doing it when i have a new car, so will end up being a weekend car (and the car will be heightened if i do dont worry about tat
)
just want brakes that are better than the standards, more positive, makes me feel safer
-
#82 piece discs ftwQuote:get the smallest and lightest that will give you adequate braking. Unsprung weight is a killer for handling.
also check pad choices available, why i dont like compbrake, very limited selection of pads.
Hispec use a volvo fitment so lots available, although a few dont fit properly.
my £12 halfrauds spethals do though lol -
#9GTi6 brakes are perfectly adequate.
and a shed load cheaper. -
#10dust seals are not a must, just on a road car i personally prefer to have them, less maintanence as you are not having to clean the pistons.
-
#11i want them new mate, if i can find some gti6 ones or 406 ones at a good price then yeah
-
#13another questio how much would the 406 brembos be brand new from the delaers, im guessing an arm and a leg
a think wilwoods are going to win it for me
EDIT jesus i really need to start using the edit button lol -
#14if you want uber light but no dust seals AP racing cit/pugsport ones
-
#15but there uber expensive
-
#16not that expensive dude.
-
#17got a link mate, cant find them on google
-
#18boutique peugeot sport on google. then 106.
ive never looked on cit sport tbh lol -
#19jesus, why cant the site be in english, i give up i found brakes but doesnt give any prices on a full kit or the calipers or the discs, its just for the brackets and nuts
-
#20lol its because the french expect everyone to know french!
KAM is now a PSA sport dealer irc. so could ask him if he can get them and price. -
#21Brembos are about a grand for the kit, APs are about £1500, though they are Fucking Great
I will be flogging my gblak Hi Specs, shoudl be off the car next weekend, come with disks and pads with wear, PM offers to the usual address -
#22wilwoods win hands down
but the vote goes to highspec for the pure cheapness and they seem to have a large rep, ill be lookin into a 325mm 6 pot set end of the summer
-
#23cheers bud dont suppose you have some pictures of them, also how long have you had them and did you buy them from new??
might not buy them now as money is a bit scarce lol, ill keep you in mind though -
#24I'll grab them at the weekend, they are 4 years old but just had the seels checked and rebuilt. I had them 2nd hand, a cook mate of mine had them first
-
#25wilwood do a good range of pads, i bought a bit too hard compound though
take a little bit stick to warm up.
-
#26cheers mateQuote:I'll grab them at the weekend, they are 4 years old but just had the seels checked and rebuilt. I had them 2nd hand, a cook mate of mine had them first
just want to hae a look at the current state of them too as i like new shiny bits
cheers for the input budQuote:wilwood do a good range of pads, i bought a bit too hard compound though

#27just wondering, out the people that are voting on the brakes, have they used any of them?
check rally design for wilwood brakes and pads etc, think my 'short rally' pads were £40. -
#28yeah a lot of people recommend wilwoods, tbh it think ill end up with these babies, great price for some great stopping power
-
#29Very few I doubt.Quote:just wondering, out the people that are voting on the brakes, have they used any of them?

I found the Hi Specs gave more confidence, better initial bite. The Wilwoods have a smaller swathed area I think.
Tried a set of Brembos on an R26 Megane last weekend, they're E-mence -
#30yeah in a perfect world id go for the ap racing

tbh i think wilwoods will suit my driving better but who knows when the time comes
-
#31i found the brembos are better for pure braking force, but the wilwoods are more progrssive and give better feel. thats my opinion anyway.
-
#32i dont get how you can say the willwoods will suit your driving better 2bh.
you have not used either set to say which suits you more, and the braking set up in terms of force is near enough identicle.
are you sure its not more what name ud rather people see you have bought? -
#33its more about cost
i just want something that will e a little bit better, a know a lot of people will say why dont you just get some uprated discs and pads but i want a 4 pot conversion, and they seem popular on here and ssc, so a think its a winner for me
oh by the way the new midilite wilwoods (road version calipers) come with dustcaps anyway
got the 2008 catalogue from rally design today, the dustcaps only cost a fiver extra anyway, also they said they have to make the brake lines to order
-
#34The real deal.....

£1250 + Vat and pads.. Have transformed the car. -
#35you slag

they look awesome mate, but 1250, you must have some money to burn, marry me
-
#36Think Rushy said his willwoods do have dust seals? Might be wrong but could be worthwhile to check!
What ever set you get make sure you weigh the caliper beforehand & again with pads etc in place. I'm quite eager to find out what some of these performance calipers weigh! -
#37yeah, by this new catalogue you can buy them for the race version of the midilite calipers as they dont come with them for some reason, but the road versions come with them, it says New on the picture so must of just started doing them
and a will do mystic, think there only about the 1kg to 5kg mark for the calipers, i could also ask about a group but when i come to them if theres enough people interested
