Gear Knob Change?

   Hi, i'm new to the forum and just wanted a bit of you guys experience.
   
   Basically i have bought one of these cheap £10 universal gear knobs but dont want to take my old gear knob off incase the new one dusent fit, especally seen as i have my driving test in my car on monday
   
   so does anybody happen to know the width of the gear stick in a saxo OR if i can put the old one back on if i take it off

   IIRC When you take the old gear knob off, it will have either a bare metal shaft, or one with a plastic sleeve.. they are the two different types..
