Speculating: Get a VTR or VTS?

   Hi everyone, just wanna introduce myself first, my name is Hung.
   I currently own a BMW 318 e36 and trying to sell it because of the poor fuel consumption! I was just wonderin whether to get a VTR or VTS. I would prefer the VTS cos of the speed but it might just be as thirsty as my beema! and when! i look at the VTR stats, 0-60mph 9.1secs @ 42mpg. which sounds very tempting! lol! so i'm tryin the weigh value for money against speed! I deliver food at the weekend, thats why i'm hesitating to get a VTS. Is there anythin u can put on the vts to control the ecu (like a VTEC controller)?????

   Hey hung. Im not familar with the e36 bmw's, but you probably wont see a great difference in mpg between the 318 and VTS for town.
   
   town driving as you are probably aware will hammer the mpg, between the VTR and the VTS there is a noteable difference. I dont have the specs to hand (work pc) but for motorway journeys the VTR is the best suited of the two with the 5th gear ratio setup as an overdrive potential (although I've never seen anyone actually get this - i could though) is 50mpg.
   
   ultimately it depends on your particular driving style.

   Look on ebay for resistor chips and electronic superchargers
   
   Seriously now, the vts will use more fuel, but not much more than the vtr. Both though when compared to your beemer will use less i think just becasue they are smaller and lighter.

   well i use my car a lot. i do about 150miles at the weekend, town driving. and i commute to manchester from chester (about 45miles) 3 times a week but sometimes i get the train. so i do clock up a lot of mileage! i just miss being able to chuck the car around cos u can't really do that in the beema! the beema is 35mpg but its an 11year old car so it might even b less!
   
   oh and btw, are the saxo's on 4 springs? or is it a torsion bar at the back?

   Torsion bar at the back, macpherson struts at the front.

   you'll probably find the vts achieving a similar mpg to that of your beemer then, but i can be more specific if you give me an idea of your general driving style.
   
   I would probably suggest a VTR as your mpg will be better, the handling is just the same as the 's' and you'll benefit from a lower tax on the engine (possibly insurance too)
