Turbo or SuperCharged

  1. #1
I got a mk2 VTR and i saved up £5000. I want to add either a turbo or a supercharger! Which is best and where can is the best place to do this? i live in buckinghamshire.
  2. #2
well there both about the same for power increases, but i think it depends what other mods u have had done to the engine?a turbo conversion will cost u round £3000+ and roughly the same for a supercharger!

for a supercharger there are a few places that do it but the main one that comes to mind is gmcmotorsport in scotland!

i no dpmotorsport did a turbo conversion but im not sure if they still do it?

check out the following places for info:
also citunning do a conversion but cant think of the web address!
  3. #3
dp no longer do it, the cituning one has yet to prove itself, also carworx have started doing turbo conversions and so far so good it would seem. They also do supercharger conversions but the real daddy is gmc motorsport, although they do not offer a turbo conversion they can handle anything to do with them as simo has proven

talk to PTS performacce turbo systems they quoted me £3.5k for turbo.... plus a curtousy car... sounded really sesible, professional & helpfull.... not sure of the web adress or tel number but call 118118 im sure they will no!
  5. #5
Thnx i check them out! where bouts are they?
  6. #6
    found pts

as i have just sent my car to gmc motorsport to get supercharged i would say get that done.i just spoken to john at gmc and he has just finished rolling roading the car which is pushing out 190 at the wheels.he is running the car in for a week for me,so i can pick it up on saturday
  8. #8
    Nice !!
    great power output there !
How much is that costing you ? If you don't mind me asking?
  9. #9
its setting me back £7000,cos i am getting an 84 charger unit in there which they have put a restricter into to stop it running its full potential until i get my gearbox.i am also getting big brakes with 4 pot calipers, with other bits and bobs.i will send pictures in when i get it back
  10. #10
    make sure you do mate..
Im sure they will be more than a few people interested.
  11. #11
when the gearbox goes in.the restriter is coming off and going to be running 240 at the wheels with standard management
  12. #12

Will have to get that R/R with a printout for us then !
  13. #13
    stadard internals?
  14. #14
all that wil be left to do is make her Rear wheel Drive, ass out everywhere!! how much fun would that be!
  15. #15
love to make her rear wheel drive, does anyone know if it has been done
  16. #16
106 running RS turbo engine in the rear, only to do it really would be to put the engine in the rear rather than making a tunnel for the propshaft and having to convert the rear end to struts anyway
  17. #17
240 at the wheels is that possible on standard management? Also your going to need some low comps as those pistons wont last 5 seconds.

P.S. Start saving for the gearbox as it isnt cheap.Run the one u have now until it packs in
  18. #18
Matt andyl's on ssc is making 231 at the wheels on standard management, for now, as far as im aware
  19. #19
How could I forget about that motor..

And I only made 200 at the wheels, or well more injection of cash needed.
  20. #20
    LMBO! © sax-p @ only 200 at the wheels!

  21. #21
  22. #22
forged pistons are already in the car with head work done aswell.gearbox should be in within 4 months
  23. #23
how much will that be extra on insurance if you dont mind me askin?Im sure its gonna eat up civic type r's, n scobbys
  24. #24
I'd love a saxo with 240bhp at the wheels. What about servicing the supercharger tho? like on VW G60's, they need the supercharger rebuilt after like every 6000 miles or sumin i heard ??

If the power gains are near enough the same, the sound of a dumpvalve would sway me towards a turbo conversion to be honest, may sound trivial but come on...WWAARRPTSS!! can't fault it!
  25. #25
id also have to say the vvrrrooom ppttsshh of the dump valve would sway me more to a turbo!
  26. #26
dump valve with a super charger as well.

No they dont need rebuilt every 6k miles, something like every 40k
  27. #27
wot u can have a dump valve with a supercharger?? i never new that!
  28. #28
you always could, it was always though to be no point due to loss of bosot pressure in the inlet pipe, but a few people have succesfully ran dump valves an chargers without any side effects
  29. #29
u learn something new every day!
  30. #30
told insurance everything.my insurance is only going up by 150.i am with adrian flux.i was told if you fit a dump valve to the supercharger it looses power,is this true
  31. #31
Turbo cos u can gain more power throu a turbo but a supercharger can kill ur engine if done wrong, where as a turbo can be tweekd.

    Up to you thou.

    Hope i was soem help.

erm care to explain any of that statement?

(a)you can gain just as much from a supercharger as you can a turbocharger.
(b)turbo will fuck youe engine EXACTLY like a turbo will fuck your engine if done wrong
  34. #34

  35. #35

Some good chat going on here guys!

All of you charged boys - make sure you get plenty of photos of your cars and bays, as these will be very handy for v4!

Matt - Isnt it about time you sorted out some video footage for us There has never been supercharger footage around the net? I can host... it will be interesting to compare withthe turbo vids.

    Make it so...
  45. #45
I will try and sort something out. Still having ploblems with the clutch at the moment. Not going into gear
  46. #46
