Thread for manifold gone

    I don't know if anyone can remember, but it wasn't that long ago I mention the bottom, far left manifold bolt always seemed to be covered in oil... ? I took a closer look at it today, and I noticed it wasn't on very tight. When I went to tighten it up, it just spun! After unscrewing it, and pulling it out, I could see that the thread in the head has gone. Does anyone know where I stand with this issue? As the left port has 3 bolts holding it in place, hopefully 1 bolt out shouldn't make too much of a problem. Although, I can't understand why oil seems to be coming out from the hole!!?

    Sounds like the thread needs helicoiled. Is the area easily accessible with tools? If not, it could be mean you need to remove the head.

    another option would be to remove the manifold and tap the hole slightly bigger and thus use a slightly larger bolt.

    yes it then becomes a bit of a pain, but it would be my preferred solution over a helicoil and would also be stronger.

    Thanks for the input guys, I do appreciate it. Luckily I manged to solve this one last night!

    I was looking at the other studs which were in place, and I could see that there wasn't a perfect consistency with the distance they were poking out. I then remembered that the stud I had the problem with was poking out further than all the rest when I went to tighten it and the thread went... Sooo... I screwed the nut on the stud most of the way back, and then placed another nut right behind it to lock it off. I then put the stud back in the head and began turning the last nut, which turned the whole stud into the head. By doing this, I manged to get the stud about another 10mm further into the head than it was before, so it picked up some new thread inside the head. I wacked the nut at the back off and tightened it all up and jobs a good'n! Phew, one less thing to stress about.
