new engine time

well i was planing to get a vts engine end of the year but due to blowing up my 1.1 i am having to get a new engine now after looking at insurence for a vts engine (2000tptf) i am going to go for a vtr engine (900tpft)

    so info on my car
1.1i sx single plug ecu 97 reg raceland manifold

well my engine has gone gear box might still be working so would it be worth putting 1.1 gearbox on or will it brake to easy?

how much harder is it fitting 3 plug ecu to a once was single plug car? whats invold?

does every ecu have to be unlocked?

i have the keypad in my car to start it anyway of geting that to work with new engine?

lastly is it going to be worth the work puting a 98bhp engine over the 90bhp? witch im thinking wont need as much workas the 98?

thanks for your help people will be searching too but fort i would make my own thread as need to no most of this asap as i need my car for work

best off try and get your self the whole engine, ecu, looms, keys and ignition barrel, gear box, suspension brakes etc.

a 90bhp vtr is very similar to 98bhp but the mk1 is single plug and the mk2 is 3plug (i think lol)

if you just get the engine, ecu, loom etc
you can have the ecu unlocked, this will allow you to use the car with your normal keys but you will have no imobiliser. a decent alarm will combat that problem

it may work out cheaper for you to buy a vtr and insure it than it will to fit a vtr engine into a 1.1

with the vtr you will get the body kit, interior, engine, suspension, brakes(discs all round), 4 stud hubs with alloys etc.

you can get decent vtrs for little cash now.

why not fit another 1.1 motor to your car, then sell it, use the cash to get a vtr?

i very doubt im going to get one with keys and ignition as my scrappy doesnt have very meny saxos

dont relly want a vtr want to turn my 1.1 into a lil sleeper plus i have done lots of work to it as it is will be upgrading my front brakes and im having the car lowerd this month plus my alloys are 3 stud and i dont want to get rid of them

so is it alot harder to wire in a 3 plug into a a sing plug?

one thing i dont get is people say get engine loom and ecu so if you have the loom why do i need it cut to is it just cuting it so it works with the rest of the car?

will my 1.1 clocks work with the vtr engine?

Yeh, i think the engine mounts are the same - it's only the drivers side mount on a vts engine that's different.

I'd buy a low mileage mk1 single plug vtr engine, driveshafts, maybe gearbox, ECU + loom. Then get the ECU unlocked - and then whilst you still have your 1.1 in there, start it up, then whilst its started remove the immobiliser box from under dash, you should now be ready to uput vtr engine in with unlocked ECU, and you'll still be able to use your old keys etc.

Whilst you have the 1.1 out, I'd treat any rust in engine bay, and perhaps look to replace the cambelt, waterpump, idler pully, thermostat, plugs, oil filter, some good oil and then get an aluminium radiator. Then when it goes in you'll have a sweet running vtr engine that won't need any work for a while, and you can just enjoy it !!

3 stud solid brakes are very poor compared to the Vt vented setup!

i will be geting these and some decent pads and at a later date my mate will be putting discs on the rear

I'd get a eet of 266mm calipers, then buy some standard pads and discs.

266mm calipers from scrappy- £40 , discs - £30, pads £30 . So you've then got pretty good and safe brakes for £100 - I would recommend them, is the best mod I've done.

I would do this before getting discs on the rear - as you'd pretty much need a rear axel for that from a vtr/vts.

You'll get a good price for 3 stud alloys!
Your choice in four stud is much bigger!!

I "MAY" have a 99 vtr soon. Only done 50k but was in a bit of a accident, nearly all pannels are fucked in someway. Engine, box, shafts, front struts, wishbones, antiroll bar and rear beam are all in good condition.

You would need the lot if you wanted to do a decent conversion as 1.1 saxos have smaller anti roll bars etc.

I could supply the lot with the keys and ignition barrel.

Bit of a treck for you though
