Oil Leak / Engine Replacement

  1. #1
Right, eversince i got my sax my engine has been leaking oil, i have gunked it twice now, and since gunking it last week it seems like more oil is dripping, i am in two frames of mind.

    1. buy either another 1.1 engine (got on lined up with 31k)
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-SAXO-H...QQcmdZViewItem
or 1.4(cant find one atm with decent milage), not 1.6 just yet, i can do all the conversion with my dad, as we got a pit etc, also if i get another engine either 1.1 or 1.4, will i still be able to use my same driveshafts, as they are 3stud and i love my alloys and dont wanna loose them

2.Buy new rocker cover gasket, head gasket set, sump gasket ?

    Thanks

I heard 1.1. saxos don't actually have a sump gasket, not sure if it is entirely true though. I reckon if you keep the same size engine you should be able to keep the driveshafts, it's when you put a bigger engine in there it mucks them up, puts more pressure on them than they can handle i think.

hows ur head gasket?? mine leaked oil when the HG was gone... also check thr rocker cover as well....

some signs of a HG failure... oil leaks

mine is looking like that mate ^ maybe worse lol, from their downwards
So if i buy tht engine from charles trents i should be able to do a straight swap, without any problems, i will be able to use my gear box, motors etc, and exsiting ecu and wiring loom ?
sorry about these questions just dont wanna wast 130 squid and find out its useless withough spending more money, also if i do get tht new engine i will strip my old engine and slowly rebuild it, so i might do a lil guide on tht if it sounds good ?
    thanks

that engine inthe EBAY link looks noting like a saxo engine... think thats from a C2? id go for another TU engine like you have.. be as well go for a VTR/s and just change the loom.. since the lump's to come out anyway

if you read below picture it sais "picture is for sample only", i can go and look at the engine as i only live bout 20 mins away !

I Don't live far from you mate.
If you want a project, I have a 1.4 Engine for free if you collect.
Gearbox mechanically is Fine, just casing is broken from crash impact, Water Pump casing is damaged, Newish clutch, and there's a bit of crap in the top where its been left with No rocker cover, (its covered up now).

You could Have the Loom with it, But you'd need to Source a 1.4 ECU.
It also has no Inlet Manifold and Throttle Body or Coilpack, Though I do have the injectors...

Like i Said, Collect and its free
    David

EDIT: Its done about 75k, and will need the tappets adjusting, I'm told this is pretty easy...

Right guys, ive decided to get that 1.1 engine, on the link above, i have got a few questions for ya
    1. the engine is 2001, myne is 1998, whill i be able to use the same ecu and wiring loom, also my exsisting dials ?
    2. will the engine fit in without changing any of the engine mounts,
    Thanks
    Wizzkiddy
  12. #12
    2. engine mounts will be fine!

    1. Is your engine single or multi-point injection?
  13. #13
Yours will be a single plug ecu, single point injection, on a 2001 I would think its a triple plug ecu and multi point injection.
  14. #14
Its easy enough to do mate, but Tbh, A lot easier again if you get an engine from another 1998 - 1999 car, Makes life so much easier
  15. #15
i honestly dont know if its single or multi point injection, how will i find out?
and how do i find out if its single or 3 plug on the ecu ?
    thanks
    wizzkiddy
i will most probs be getting another engine b4 weekend so need these probs resolved before i buy it and realise its useless lol
    Thanks

    Year of car?

Where is the oil coming from on the engine?

    Does it still run ok?

Seems a lot of hasstle to (engine swop) to fix an oil leak!
  17. #17
    year of car is 1998
oil coming from same place as the image scottg17 posted, car does run ok, sometimes looose power and have to start it a few times to get it running ok, its not overheating.
  18. #18
Should be a Single PLug ECU Tbh mate.
There's a Box on the left of the Engine Bay, with a Big plug going in.
If its one big Plug its Single, If there's 3 smaller plugs, its 3 Plug, Really is that easy to tell.

Would it not pay to leave it mate?
Just Leave it till it dies, then sort it - Tbh If its not using masses of oil, and there's no water in the oil or oil in the water, I'd leave it.

Its a common problem on them, and might last another 6 months, and by then you might be able to afford to insure a 1.4 Engine, Or find a cheaper, Better 1.1.
