Exhaust advice

  1. #1
Since changing my job 6months ago my car only gets used once in the week (Business - London to Leamington 256miles round trip) and around town and maybe a few long runs to the coast or further a field with the missis.

    My current exhaust setup is:

Piper 4-1, Sports cat, Straight through centre section, custom backbox 2" GroupN style

Now on long trips (anything over about 30-45mins) it becomes very hard work so Im looking to change my exhaust, before I go any further please read the below . . .

"I DO NOT WANT A MAGNEX SYSTEM - As I do not like the look of the rear siliencer."

Ok, so Im looking for a fairly quiet system but not sure to what to go for.

Janspeed is quiet as I had a mild steel system not long after I got the car.

How do people find their Scorpion systems? as I have always fancied the dual exit system.

    All advice welcomed, thanx

is it the resonating thats causing the problem??

The thing is, I know this is gona sound daft but it seems to have gotten louder since I reinstalled my interior.

Because I havent got the sound deading material that came out of the rear quaters and the such I think where it was stripped the sound was just in the cabin and opening the sunroof relased some of the pressure and toned down the note, but now the interior is back I think it has 4 pockets to boom in, the 2 rear quaters, the main cabin, and the boot area.

I was thinking of goinf for a complete factory item from the cat back and maybe just having the tailpipe replaced but Im not sure.

Alot of this has also been brought on by a holiday in north cornwall in March and I dont want to drive there with ear muffs lol

my exhaust was "louder" with my interior in,
    i feel your pain.
    Scorpion are generally quite quiet,
however I do feel the duplex systems are a tad rough on the eyes.

So have you the dual exit or just the single 3.5"? How do you find it on long runs, my old Janspeed was faily quite, but Id rather go with another brand.

Demon Tweeks are good as they hold a huge stock of items but I find them alittle pricey, if I was gona go with Scorpion Id check www.speedbox.co.uk www.motorsportworld.co.uk or www.performancecentre.co.uk first then work outwards from there.

was yours really loud? got a piper 3inch backbox coming tomorrow. Dont know wether to get a straight through or leave the centre silcener. What you think? de-catting it aswel as it doesnt make much noise difference.

I think Soulless's system was single box and decated aswell.

Single box systems are great around town and anywhere upto the 30-60mins motorway trip any longer and they can get very hard work.

I love mine round town as its quite raspy but Its soooooooo boomy on a long run and like I mentioned with a trip down to cornwall I want something alittle more 'women friendly' lol

Karl, did you ever get any complanits from your girlfriend about the nosie level of your exhaust system?
