Bridging amps???

  1. #1
Ive just fitted my sound system....well half...
Im dissapointed with the sound at the mo and noticed when i disconnected different speakers i got better sound...this is due to a lack of power...
ive recently layed caples to the rear of the car and am now interested in investing in another amp...
fuck me cut to the point boy.....
can you run 2 amps off one power cable?
or do i have to run another cable?
    how does it work...
i know my amps bridgeable to another...simple job...
but where does the power come from???
    help

what guage of cable is it? what amps are you running?
  3. #3
Distribution block if you want it done properly...electric tape if your feeling like a cowboy

Dont forget same for the earth!

a distribution block is only ok if the main power cable running to the boot is thick enough!

so we need to know what the guage of the existing cable is and the amps its running?

it is extremely dangerous to se a distribution block if the main feed cable is not thick enough..you could start a fire easily if it is too thin

Well get whatever gauge distribution block you need...thought they came in all size inputs/outputs im no electrician mind

    Its 8 gauge cable
    500 watt alpine v12...
i know i should of gone for 4 gauge but is was the cost...
No bodies actually answered the question in a way i understand...distribution block???? distribution what??
i havnt chosen my new amp to bridge it too....

you really want to be running the 4 guage and use the 8 guage to supply the other two amps from the 8 guage.

Distribution Block: Comes with 1 input and then fused outputs at least 2 up to 4 normally. Allows current to be split without actually loosing any power.

A distribution block has one lead coming in and a number of outputs depending on the one you buy. it looks similar to this:

8 guage cable is not sufficient. that cable is not thick enough to supply the current required for both amps. if you supply less current then you wont get the full performance from your sound system and in the worset case- cause a fire in the car if the cable over heats from tring to draw too much current.

i made a simple diagram which shows the layout:

again you can use a distribution block to earth the amps. two 8 guage earth cables going into a distribution block with one 4 guage cable being bolted to the boot

Thanks for the extensive help...much appreciated
