#2alright mate, ive had a vtr-vts conversion done. i assume you know what you need to do the conversion right? if not heres a list:
-vts engine (obviously)
-ecu
-keys
-wiring loom
-ignition barrell
-imobiliser/transponder box
-radiator and fans (as larger than vtr)
everything but the wiring loom and the radiator/fans has to be from the same car otherwise they wont work with each other.
price wise it will vary depending on age of the engine and also what else you are changing when doing the conversion. when i had mine done i had a full s/s system,4-1-2 manifold,de-cat and piperx viper fitted.
the engine itself cost me round £500 but with the above it came to roughly £1000.
my mates a mechanic and he fitted the engine for me,so i gave him £200 for doing it. so all in all it came to roughly £1200!!
if u need anymore info just ask.
edit: also the time it took was two 7 hour days so not that long really! -
#3alright there mate your the only one i seem to get replys from much appreciated do you notice a big change in acceleration and top end then i need to give a local pug gti a run for his money ive had 123mph out ma own vtr what about chips aswell cheers mate
-
#4Mate you dont need a VTS engine to give a 106gti a run for its money.
Look at spec in my sig mate -
#5the difference in acceleration is amazing! 2nd gear i get 70mph! top end is good too it jus keeps going where as the vtr takes longer! 4000rpm in the vts is when the fun kicks in best!
ive had 136mph with the vts and it had more to go! with regards to chips the best i no of is the dastek which will set u back roughly £450 but its best to leave that until u have other engine mods such as full system,de-cat,enclosed air filter, manifold, cams then ud have a chip and re-map it to the other mods!
your welcome mate im happy to help!
edit: theone- your right with what your saying but if he has the vts engine he can get alot more power!! plus if he has what you have he'll be spending roughly the same amount of money as with the engine conversion! -
#6Thats true mate but you also have to look at other things.
Insurance is cheaper on a VTR engine and it uses less petrol.
My advice would be........
If your VTR engine has clocked up the miles then get a low mileage VTS lump.
If it hasnt racked up the miles and you already have an exhaust and air filter then get a manifold, cams and chip -
#7yeah i see what your saying with the petrol and insurance but my advice would be to get the engine conversion!
at the end of the day its up to the individual! i have a mate with a mk2 vtr and he has had similar work done to yours! very quick for a vtr!!
-
#8I'm thinking bout some cams soon
-
#9cam, singular, vtr only has one.
-
#10thanks again lads ill let u no the outcome bank manager has still to fone back he he
-
#11I know it only has one mate bout makes sense to say cams rather than camQuote:Originally Posted by Scottcam, singular, vtr only has one.

#16im also thinking about gettin an engine conversion done at some point, just wondering where the best place is to get hold of a decent engine?
-
#17A scrap yard, get one thats still in the car and see it started and stuff first
-
#18check local breakers, even better if the car comes with paperwork, warranting mileage
-
#19yeah a scrap yard or there are a few on ebay now n again. i got mine from a scrappy and saw it in the car before i bought it etc!!!
-
#20i got mine through yellow pages at find me a part.i got a phone call within the hour from a few scrap breakers.picked it up for £500 for everything
-
#21yeah mine was roughly the same price! have you had any problems with the conversion??? ie fuel return line???
-
#22no i have not had any problems besides when i put the engine in the main loom was a bit if a job
-
#23did u have to plumb in a fuel return line? wot saxo did u convert it from???
i have done mine from vtr-vts and the vtr doesnt have a fuel return line, where as the vts does. i havent got round to doing mine yet. if u have got one please tell me how you did it??? -
#24gmc have just done all mine for me.i converted it from a vtr to a 106 gti.sorry i cant be any help
-
#25no worries matey! maybe worth me giving them a ring!
-
#26gafvts? - how much were you charged for the conversion to be done by gmc?
-
#27gmc did not do the conversion, they just sorted all the wiring and fuel pipes etc
-
#28how much did they charge you for that? also did u have to change the fuel tank?
-
#29no i have never changed the fuel tank.i do not know the price cos they did it when they did the charger and everything.they told me it only took 6 hours for the wiring.
