how to - fitting 106 GTI doorcards to your saxo

  1. #1
first off all you need to remove the saxo doorcard. take the 2 torx screws out

once the screws are out. go to one off the lower corners off the doorcard and prize it off. then start working your way round the doorcard till it fully comes off.

now lift the doorcard over the doorpin and the doorcard is off.

remove the L-shaped metal piece, as you won`t be needing it anymore

remove the inner mirror plate. this just pulls off

with the mirror plate removed you will be left with this. remove the screw the arrow is pointing at

remove the screw so you can remove the mirror plate. you now need the inner mirror plates from a 106 that has manuel mirrors and use that mirror plate. if you have a vts, you will need a mirror plate from a 106 with electric mirrors. mind put the screw back in when you`ve fitted the 106 plates

next is to remove these 3 bolts from the door lock. but keep them close as you will be putting them back in a minute

with removing the 3bolts it will now let you take the inner door leaver off and replace it with 106 inner door lever. the door leaver just pulls out and unhooks at the back. then fit the 106 door leaver and put it back in , refit the 3 bolts in the door lock, the ones you just removed.

next step is to put the 106 doorcard in place. it goes over the doorpin and hooks in at the top. fits straight on

you will see in the above picture marks off where the doorhandle is to go. so get your door handle put it in place and drill 2 holes . these holes are at a angle so you will need a decent sized drill piece. holes are marked below. you will need self tapper screws for this job

this next part just pushes on below the door handle

this next part is held on by screws. ive outlined the screw fixings. it pushes on below the part you just put on. once fitted drill the holes i outlined and attach using inch self taper screws.

last part is to fit the inner door lever surround. this pushes straight on and clips in.

you should now have something that looks like this.

nice 1, will come in handy!

when i did mine i used "quiky" doorcards so the window switches werent on the panel. also, the panel inserts arent grey cloth so go with the interior a bit better IMO

  9. #9
thats not a bad idea mate bout the quicksilver lever surround so you haven`t any switches. ma plan is on mines, to get ma mirrors wired to the switch anyway as i put the electric motors behind ma mirror.
  10. #10
awesome guide will be using it tomoro wen i get ma doorcards delivered!
  11. #11
so can u not use the saxo wing mirror covers then, will be using this guide soon good stuff mate rep.
  12. #12
no mate. the saxo mirror plates are whey to short. you defo need the 106 ones. cheers
  13. #13

Great sticky definitely gonna do this and get a 106GTi interior, much rep!
  19. #19
Anyone know if the electric mirror switch from the 106 has the same connectors as the saxo one?
  20. #20
why did you take the bit out of the door? i fitted dannys and didnt need the inner leaver
  21. #21
if you mean the inner lever to get out. the saxo one is curved at the top, and the 106 one is square allround. thats how i needed to change it. otherwise the surround doesn`t clip in / fit properly. plus with the saxo one fitted you will have a bit off a gap at the top. i tried the saxo one first and thought it didn`t look right thats why i got the proper thing. unless the saxo one on your mates car is straight at the top . but i doubt it.
  22. #22
Thats sick man, never realised how smart the Gti interior was!
  23. #23
also you can see the rivetts(is that even a word) where the 106 bolts line up too, i remeber when me and yates did mine we just punctured them in with a hammer and something sharp and pointy! then went about screwing in with self tappers

how come the car is red to start and gold at the end?
  33. #33
i had already done mines with the 106 cards without making a guide. then i bought a saxo vtr turbo to put the turbo parts onto mines. then decided to do a guide between the 2 cars. as one had vtr interior and mines had the 106 interior.
  34. #34
good guide there m8, wudnt mind doing mine, think the gti door cards look much better.

im abit confused as to what to do with the mirror plates?

i dont understand what you mean when you say put the vts mirror motors in the back of the mirror...where exactly

and if not doing that we need to buy 106 interior mirror plates to keep the manual adjusters?

    cheers

see where you adjust your mirrors on the lever bit. the plastic triangler piece where the lever comes through ? that is 2 short for the 106 doorcards so you have to get the mirror plate from a 106 with manual mirrors. when thats fitted the 106 doorcards will line up properly.

if you haven`t got electric mirrors that would be the route to go down, rather than buying the electric mirror motors.

would the mirror plates off a vts fit someone said that to me..finding it slightly harder to track down 106 mirror plates than saxo ones
  42. #42
Nice guide that mate. Might have to look out for some gti door cards now :-)

yeah they would fit but there still to short and would look shite. just go to a scrapies get them off any 106 apart from a gti. will cost like a 5ver.

Maybe this is a stupid question but,is there any chance that the door lock would fall off when the 3 screws are removed?

    Thanks in advance.

Did this job yesterday,i used some screwdriver to keep the door lock into position but it didn't seem it could fall off,it just moved a little bit.

the handles and barrel are still attached so it won't fall out. the only reason you're removing the bolts is so you can move the inner handle around to get it off/on

Does anyone know if the GTI seats fits with no mods on a Saxò VTS 16v? Thanks in advance.
  49. #49
Major bump but for the two self taper screws that hold the large handle on, what size should I get? Same with all the other ones that go around the bottom of the door? 1 inch?

    Cheers
  50. #50
Inch ones are fine for the bottom, did I not send you the middle screws? Thought they were there? If not there 2 inch.

Sorry mate just checked and the middle screws are there was just curious about the bottom ones as I didn't want to get ones that were too long. I take it when you still the holes for the bottom you just use a bit that is slightly smaller than the thread on the screws (common logic) Just that the door cards you sent are mint and I don't want to f**k this up.

Struggling abit with doing the armrest bit what size self tappers do i use n what size drill because te 3mm drill i used on bottom will no reach threw handle

Yes they do just swap over the seatbelt pretensioners, then you can use the saxo airbag wiring.
