The Autobox

Well I have a problem with the auto at the moment and not entirely sure whats wrong.

Basically after the car has been stood say overnight and I go to drive to work, I'll put it in reverse and then accelerate but the car doesnt move for a good 5 seconds it's as if, it's in neutral as it is just revving but no actually going anywhere, it's not too bad if the car is started after not being stood for too long, but just after 5-10 seconds it sorts itself out and actually engages the gear I chose, but it doesn't seem right.

Any idea what is the problem, could the box be fubared? considering the car is coming up for 12 years old and has 126k on it?

    Thanks in advance

    Steven

Ok, this weekend checked the fluid on level ground. It was pretty low but not under minumum, I have topped it up to the required level. I can know get off my steep drive without having to rev to 4k + lol.

Anyway now the problem is, I am coming up to a junction or roundabout, after say doing 30+mph, with the car being in 3rd gear, when I go to pull away the car is still in 3rd, rather tahn changding down to 1st. Any after 10 seconds it will engage the gear. Anyone have any ideas?

    Back again Guys........

Anyway just went out in my lunch break to check on the old auto.
Considering last Saturday I put the required amount of gearbox oil in. to the maximum mark.

Just checked it now, and its almost at minimum, the thing is ive checked under the car and im not loosing gearbox oil??????!!??

How can the gearbox use it that bloody quickly??

This is starting to piss me off, any ideas.
