Struggling to Tick Over

   When i leave my car standing on idle, the needle sits just under the 1000 rev mark, and if i sit in the car, it idle a little rough and the needle just moves up and down a bit and theres been a few times its struggled to stay running and its chocked and just cut out, so sometime if i think it's going to cut out, i need to touch the accelerator to keep it running but this only a few times.
   
   Also when i give it higher revs, i can hear a clicky winey noise, and sounds asif its coming from the alternator area of engine
   
   so if you say anything will need checked, what do i need check? also is there any checks i can do to narrow it down more?

   Sounds like your IAC has packed up, if you know your way around a spanner there easy to check/change.

   sounds like could do with a good service plugs oil ect.

   had service about month ago but ill still change again what you all reckom
   
   can all give me instructions on what to do, what to check etc etc

   mine struggles to tick over when i got a flat battery.

   give your icv a clean .see if this helps . i had to do this with my vtr as i had the same problem or check your coil pack

    If cleaning icv and a service doesnt do the check the llambda mate

    could it be anything to do with my mani? maybe it starting to blow? how i check or clean my icv?

    your IAC valve is towards the firewall, just to the right of the inlet manifold.
    
    two torx screws hold it in, take it out, make sure you dont loose the spring and clean it up, switch the ignition on and off a few times and you should feel it clicking.
    
    re-grease it and put it back in ensuring a good seal.
    
    Get your car serviced and see if it helps

    idle control valve gets some carb cleaner in about it...sounds like this my mate had this problem and it sorted it
