Bolt Rounded Off

  1. #1
Went to lower torsion today and one of the torx bolts is rounded right off.

Tried hammering a larger torx in but has just made it worse!

Any ideas? Green stuff available for helpful answers!

weld something onto it, so you can get a better grip of it?

Or the usual soak it in like wd40/coke as well, or heat it up?

I had to use a impact driver on mine with flat end bit. Did the trick for me

    impact driver if you can
    heat
    wd40/coke
weld nut on if you can and undo by that

Cheers for that guys, rep'd all apart from hessle, need to spread some more.

When you say and impact driver, what exactly you mean by that?

could you not get mole grips onto it? get a proper heat gun and heat it up, it makes the threads expand and that will make turning it easier.

its like a big screw driver what you hit and turn and should make getting it out easier

but im not sure it will wok on yours depending on how bad you have rounded it off

just use a thin chissel and hammer and tap it round, loads of them round off because there rusted, chissel and hammer does it in secs dont it loads of times

Its like properly round inside. Tried hammering a socket over it but it wasnt working. I have a blow torch but even if I heat it up I cant see how I can get it off.

i like the impact driver looks like you can smack them with a hammer ace

you place the chissel on the outside adge of the bolt and angle it slightly as u hit it, trust me it loosens it first time

here is a pic of a torsion bar bolt that i had used a chissel on to get it off, you can see the indentation it left after i had tapped it loose, i replaced all the torx bolts with new 13mm headed bolts instead to save future rounding

Cheers for those pics steve. So if I just whack a 13mm bolt in after it should be ok yeah?

Mine was well worse than that steve. You cant really heat it up the side i was on due to the fuel tank n pipes

Tbh i dont think i even attemped to undo that particular one in the pic with the torx bit, i think the first one i did rounded and as i got the chissel out to take that one off i jsut did the rest with the chissel aswell as only takes a sec to do, also no need to heat it up the chissel and hammer does it first time every time without heating it, jsut make sure the chissel u use is a good one and not made from some soft monky metal lol

I just grinded a line onto the bolt head with a dremmel - then used the impact hammer, with a flat head screwdriver bit on - undid straight away!

i did this on my rocker covers. i used a grinder tho to flatten one side of the nut to make it fool proof, was probs a bit overkill tho.
