  1. #1
Changing my suspension on saturday. What size spanner do i need for the nut in the top mount which holds the shock? I know i need a swan neck but which size
  2. #2
i think it was a 14mm one I needed - someone should be able to confirm for def though.

EDIT: scratch that misread the Q, is it not an 18mm? Seem to remeber going to buy a sew set of swan neck spanners to fit the damn thing since 18mm aint a std size

Yeh my first answer was 13mm for the same reason

Fairly sure its an 18mm, plonk the wee citroen issue hubnut wrench thing over it and see if its just too big to fit in.

Btw, you will still struggle to get at the nut with a spanner, i ended up getting an 18mm socket bit with like a hex shaped end, then put that on, grab the hex end with a monkey wrench / big spanner (think mine was about 23mm) and you have a hollow tube for the allenkey / torx bit to get in at!

lmao, mine wont be on that tight, another way is to mole grip the shock, which is what my mate did when he was fitting them forgot about that acutally.

yeah iirc its 18mm, make sure u slacken it while its still bolted to the car as its easyer to slacken it a few turns then and then remove it after its off the car, oh and make sure u turn the nut and jsut hold the middle still with a torx, if u try turn the torx and hold the nut still changes are u will round it or stuff it up

yeah turn the nut not the torx, i seen loads of amatures stuff it up by trying turn the middle torx, u just have to use a torx bit to holt the shock shaft still but turn the nut

coolio, what happens if u turn the torx? fuck all lol?
last tiem i tried to do them then i got a call to go to williams, i couldnt get teh track rod end nut back on, the hole thing kept turning? wtf that all about? not sure how he got it back on like

If u turn the torx it does the same as undoing the nut if the nut is held still, but most the time it will round the internal of the torx off, so u want to turn the nut while holding the torx bit still not turning the torx bit while holding the nut still, same on the drop links turn the nut not the torx bit but u will have to hold the torx bit still to be able to turn it without it jsut rotating

on the track rod end use some grips to hold it down against the strut mount point while at the same time undo it, this will stop it spinning

so for the track rod it just needs to be kept pressed down hard against teh strut?
