port and polish throttle body vtr

  1. #1
i took the restriction bar off my butterfly over the weekend to see if this gave me any more power/throttle response. it defatatly made some sort of difference so im going to bore and polish it out myself. just wondering what would be the best tools to use to bore my throttle body out more.

i used a dremel to take the bar from the butterfly, and was wondering if this would be the best thing to use.

if any one has done this themselves could they give me some info

    will rep for usefull info

    cheers

dont know much about doing this but make sure you still have a good seal on the butterfly or else your car will idle bad and stall
  3. #3
yeah i know mate im going to keep the cicumfrence around the butterfly the same,

if the circumfrence around the butterfly is the same, the now matter how big you make the circumfrence either side of it the velocity of the air can only go to the same as it was?

what i was meaning was im gonna bore and polish the throttle body but not to the extent that i have to change the butterfly. what are the best toolsto use?

dremel i suppose mate. Just thinking that if you bore it you will loose the seal? If you do it so as not too loose the seal, you can hardly take any metal out?

think i mite just smoth the screws down and bore the first inch or so out the bit before the butterfly. Will this be worth doing?

Yeh you would want to open the tb up and remove the restricitng metal circle thing
  10. #10
iv alredy tacken the circle restrictor out and it gave it more response.thats why im going to bore the lip and screws to make it better

i did mine and used a dremel and lots of sand paper!
then some really fine sand paper

so dont waste your time altering it any more. Your butterfly is the limiting factor here so without fitting a larger throttlebody you are not going to gain any more from widening the rest

I think that enlarged throttle body's can give good gains, as long as they are bored out and fitted with a bigger butterfly.

Here was my one that i have done on my last car that i owned (Vectra).

Here you can see the original butterfly under the throttle body to see how much it was bored out.

"I think that enlarged throttle body's can give good gains"

You indeed may be right matey

However does anyone have any proven gains for these? If they do we would be interested too hear!

same principle as a flowed head! you dont put bigger valves in but you still get gains!

as for the vtr throttlebody. i would be VERY careful as it seals against the inlet manifold on the flat face of the throttlebody. this is the bit that you enlarge & re-shape. take to much off the throttlebody and you have a useless piece of metal in your hands!

I just think, (until someone proves me wrong, please do) that it's a complete waste of time.

well my car will be rr'd again in 5 weeks and all ive done is the tb and stripped it more

it seems more responsive but as for more power we'll find out
  20. #20
let me know piggy123 if you gain any more power
  21. #21
If someone sends me one of these ported throttle bodies that claim power i will gladly drive me car down to the garage and dyno it before and after for free.

Lozza_vtr that is the way it should be done mate!
