3 to 4 stud spacers/concerters

Seen these and just wondering if anyone else has used them/if they're safe?

    *converters

I saw a set of these, but wasn't totally convinced about them being safe. Spoke to an alloy wheel place about them and they said they stopped selling them because they had too many comebacks on them. I would steer clear and find a nice set of 3 stud wheels if i were you.

would it not be possible to get a 4 stud hub assembly and bolt it on?

to convert it to 4 stud, you have to but the rear axle, the front suspension legs and driveshafts, looked into it and it was very expensive.

sure it could be done on a budget with careful buying, plus you'd have the bonus of bigger brakes and harder suspension. iirc it's fairly dear for the adapters, 4 stud vag to 5 stud porsche adapters were £150 minimum.

But bearing in mind, most of the 3 stud cars are 1.1's so do you need to get bigger brakes, i'm just uprating the discs and pads, not going bigger. I saw a set of adaptors on ebay, they went for about £85 iirc. Trying to find some is a nightmare.

it's amazing what a difference bigger brakes can make though. my neighbour had 280mm brakes on his mk2 golf syncro and it was actually scary how quick it stopped.

If you want to convert to 4 studs from 3 stud fitment it can be done fairly cheaply if you're happy to just whip the old parts off and put some good condition ones back on.

Front struts you can get for about £50- you only need the bottom half from where the bottom of the spring sits downwards.

Rear axle you could get one from a Mk2 or power steering assisted 1.1 which as 4 studs or any other model above that.

The parts are easy enough to swap over.

You dont need to change driveshafts or anything else

So should I steer clear of the spacers then?
