Remapping the 307....

  1. #1
    Morning,

I dunno why I'm thinking this, as I said I wouldn't do anything to the car but the extra 30bhp and 50lbft torque sounds interesting.

Currently the Peugeot is running 110bhp and 180lb ft of torque so with this remap you are looking at figures of 140bhp and 229lb ft of torque. Just a couple of questions....

    ----------

    1) How bad will this affect my clutch in terms of life?

    2) Any other strains it could put on my engine etc?

    3) Are these 100% reliable?

I have been looking at a company called 'Celtic Tuning' - anyone dealt with them? I have heard nothing but good reports and I they are in a magazine called 'Car Mechanics' which I get every month.

I'm still awaiting a price, but here is what a fellow 307 owner said about his remap on the same engine...

    Quote:
It is a given that anyone choosing to have their motor re-mapped is a bit of a petrol-head, but I have been confined to a stodgy family bus for far too long. When I was finally able to move towards a car of my own choice the brief was smaller and more economical. I went for the Peugeot 307 Hdi 110. Not a rubber-burner off the line, but I was impressed with its turbo-whoosh overtaking capability. However there is always room for improvement and the figures given for Graham's re-map looked very interesting. A 36% power increase should be tempting enough, but a matching 36% increase in torque, peaking at just about 3000rpm was the clincher.

Celting Tuning came out to my building site, and just while I was in a meeting the job was done. The transformation they worked was staggering. Green-light acceleration is so impressive, but even more useful is the simply astonishing overtaking ability. 50 to 90 (only where legal) is covered in the blink of an eye in fifth gear alone.

I have to take my hat off to you guys. The service has been excellent; convenient, completely painless and such value for horsepower. If anyone is considering their service, jump to it and enjoy the results.
Any help will be appreciated, pros/cons and advice.

    Thanks,

    Luke

    2 - Nothing major
    3 - Yes
    4 - go for it

    less mpg?

i wouldnt bother if it is going to affect mpg as you bought the car to be good on fuel

wait 6 months or so and get yourself a weekend car

old vts, buckets and cage ftw

well mate ive a remaped 1.4 hdi. made so much difference. Although it feels alot quicker than my saxo, but its really not.
next thing is the clutch. MIne slips ever so slightly( 21 on the clock) when the car is cold but its fine when warmed up. ive a habbit of wrecking clutches anyway without a remmap.
french cars all have shite clutches in them anyway so tbh it will fuck your clutch up quicker, but dont be put off by that. the smile on your face everytime is well worth it believe me (not far off 300lb of torque) stupid amount of torque compared to what any saxo will ever produce

Cheers for all the replies guys.

I have read if you boot it ALL the time, of course it will affect the MPG but if I drive as I do now - I'll more than likely see an increase. To be honest, it's a quick enough car but I want the extra power to be able to boot it on motorway/A road and overtake plus the extra power of pulling out of a junction would be nice.

Celtic Tuning come to you too.

    hang on hang on man.

Firstly, dont go hammering the engine in first gear ever after a remap otherwise your clutch will go bye bye. Secondly... do you know what over derv engines are in the range (anymore powerful ones) as often they use a generic transmission to save on manufacturing costs... sometimes this means the transmission will take the increased torque.

    2) extra strain on the engine is really down to level and 'quality' of the remap. You've got to be strict on yourself to service it much earlier than the book says (75% sooner) and you should always go for fully synthetic oil.

    3) they're reliable yeah, but you've got to be sure you're getting a good map specific to your engine as opposed to a generic one.

    4) ties in with '3)'. Dont go to any remap places that doesnt tune it on a rolling road. To do a proper remap they need to get an ideal of the current torque profile, where any flat spots are and then determine how far they can 'push' the boundary.

Each engine is different (even a 1.6 16v is different to the next one in it during manufacture) which is why its so important to get a remap done on a rolling road.

a generic remap you're just conning yourself to be honest.

    Go with superchips.

mpg should be ok, but that is really down to the remap (you'll get better mpg results from a specific remap than a generic) and your driving.

    hope that helps.

Well if you're thrashing the arse of it yeah. The clutch on mine hasn't been replaced in 4 years and is still fine.

    Sorry Luke

they guy across the road from my parents has a Skoda derv and he got a plug and play chip from sweeden for £30 and he says its added 20bhp and improved the mpg by 7. i know its a generic chip but all that for £30 cant be that bad imo

ive herd the std map on these sorts of cars are pants, hense why diesels can be tuned/mapped easily, alot of diesels see better mpg and performance from a better map depending on driving, only thing u need to worry about is what company is best to do it, as it all boils down to how well the map is, and i cnt see u thrashing it in first & second all the time so the clutch should be fine tbh..

u probally wont keep it long enough for a new clutch anyways hehe , remaps are great on diesels, wish they had the same affect on petrol cars tbh..

i would of done it already mate!
manufacturers sell cars with big warranties so there is a lot of give in tuning it up this way and still keeping reliability. as long as you dont beast the car regularly it will be fine.

My mate had his Fabia VRS remapped, was really unreliable, popped 2 turbos.. He drives like a twat at times though...

He's now got a Hybrid Turbo and a proper remap and is putting out 240bhp

If the company are really good then do it, but only if you know they are..
