Saxo battery??? Alternator??? Starter Motor??? Or.... Spark Plugs???

Ok... when i bought my saxo the owner didnt tell me whether the battery needed changing or anything. But the day i got it i was driving around in it... parked it up and had the side lights on for like 5 minutes. I then went to start the car and it would not turn start. However... it decided to come on straight away by a little jump start. but now the car will not hold a charge. I checked the battery and it had 2 dry cells so i filled them back up with ionised water and then drove the car for about 15 minutes and also left the car idle for around 10 minutes and then once i turned the car off it would start nicely until i leave it for around 15 - 20 minutes. I would then turn the car back on and it wont start again. Im going to replace the battery anyways as it had to dry cells prior to me filling them back up again but im also thinking my spark plugs may need replacing and if the worst comes.. then either the starter motor or alternator but i dont think its the starter motor as wen the car has a little charge.. it will start so it cant be the starter motor. I dont know but i will change the spark plugs and get a new battery and see if that helps.. if not.. them im just going to save up hardcore and not drive it till my mot (april - DREADING IT).

Has anyone else had a similar problem?>?>?>?>????

it could be alternator not charging battery whilst off.

by the way, when i say save hardcore i dont mean for replacing the alternator or starter motor loool cus that would make me look like a cheapo but im talking about any work that needs to be done on the car when the mot comes as i know there will be a problem with the steering Grrrrr... it clunks sometimes too. Ahhh just my luck

owww man.. ill try the cheap option first and change the sparkys and battery and then go onto the alternator. hmmm...

wouldn't hurt to do it all, probs best to get cheap stuff done first because you don't want to shell out for new alternator when you don't have to.

You might as well give it a service (Oil & filters) when you do the plugs!

Im presuming when you say it wont start you mean it doesnt do anything when you turn the key or turns the engine over very slow.

The battery will be foooked mate if its had dry cells get a new one simple as that.

I dont think you will have any other problems from what you save said. When you fit the new Battery ( 5min job ) just get a multi meter on it when the car is running at medium revs just check if its charging. If it is jobs a good en if not be a problem with the Alternator or wireing on it.

yeah i will go out any buy a new battery and ill change the sparkys anyways as they may need changing. but yeah i guess the battery would jus be f**k'd if it had 2 dry cells. Good thing i checked if it had any water in it

Dont Saxo's run with a coil pack??
Doe's the battery light come on at all??
I'd start by gettin a new battery because to me it sounds as if its not holding the charge. The battery light will come on if there's no charge from the alternator to the battery.

when i switch on the car... 1st the red battery light comes on and then when i try to start it all the lights dim and the car dont start

yeah i reckon its just the battery not holding a charge as it did have the 2 dry cells. So 1st bet is the battery and ill jus replace the spark plugs anyways as I dont know when they were last changed.

First off get your battery tested some garages do it for free,a faulty alternator can drain down a battery overnight I know had it happen to me.

These saxo cars have similar problems like others so the solution would be buy a stronger battery. If it is diesel it would need more power especially in winter so buy aprox. 66A battery. Example topla or bosch battery would be great.

It is most likely to be the relay just below the ecu (left hand side near where you top up the wash bottle) charge up battery unplug relay over night hey presto connect in morning battery is full. Hope this helps

Could be the starter motor mate.. Saxo had an electric starter motor that when started a metal brush runs over a shiny metal plate. If when u turn your
Can of the brush could stop on a dull bit. Not even a jump start will fix it.. Go to halfords or ur locall garage and get ur battery and alternator tested.. I'm having the same problem, it's going to the garage tomorrow to get a new starter motor in it.. As my battery is running at 83% and the alternator is working fine. Mines going to cost £60-£70
