2" Pugsport!

  1. #1
Hi all. Wanting to get a 2" pugsport 2 piece de-cat system soon. Just one thing though, my car has two lambda sensors pre and after cat. Is there a hole for the sensor after the cat on the pugsport system for the sensor to screw into? Thanks, Lee

As far i as i they only make them for the one with the lambda on the down pipe

Sort of Buckland... The Pugsport exhaust doesn't have any holes for a lambda sensor. As it's a 2 piece system with no cat, you wouldn't want one anyway.

you can buy a "Lambda sleeve" from GMC for about 20 quid delivered dude,
this will sort your problem of the post cat lambda.

Because there's not cat in the exhaust. The 106 GTI mk2 has 2 lambda sensors, one located in the exhaust manifold and the other located after the cat in the exhaust system.

The role of the 1st lambda sensor is very important, as it sends signals back to the ECU to determine what it thinks the air/fuel ratio should be. If it thinks the burn is too rich, it tells the ECU to lean the mixture off, and if it's too lean, it tells the ECU to richen the mixture up...

The second lambda sensor is only there to report on how well the cat is performing. It won't make any changes to the fuelling whatever it reads. If you were to plug the sensor into an exhaust system with no cat, the lambda sensor would assume the cat isn't working properly, and in turn, it would cause your engine diagnostic light to illuminate.

As Soulless mentioned before, the solution is to trick the lambda sensor into thinking the cat is working very well, by actually blocking it from reading any exhaust gasses.

Where can you buy these systems from?

I bought a sleeve for my 4-1 manifold on my VTR as that had two sensors. I had to plug the pre cat sensor where the after cat sensor was, and re-route the after cat sensor back to the top and then put the sleeve over it. Will I have to do the same with my 106? Or can I leave the pre cat sensor still in the manifold and just sleeve the after cat sensor?

You just need to put the second lambda in the sleeve mate!
