turbo exhausts

  1. #1
Definatly decided to turbo the vtr when funds allow lol i cant not have boost in my life lol.
Should be getting it done when i have saved the money but would like to get the exhaust done now as i have a bit of cash for that aswell as chasis set up etc.
    I was going to go with the magnex if i cam'd the vtr but dont think it will be big enough for the turbo, so; can anyone reccomend me a turbo specific exhaust that;
    1) Looks similar to magnex or piper/nothing over the top
    2) Sounds similar to magnex, do not want a loud exhaust at all, until the boost comes in that is...
    3)Reasonable price
    4) Can handle turbo power, not too much, only going to run about 6-8psi
and finally; something that allows room for a sport cat to be put on the downpipe from the turbo
    Any help much appreciated...

    boost BTB..

    very sturdy system, 2.5 bore.

im about ready to put my turbo lump in my vtr now all ive done is had one made so that it fits to the turbo elbo downpipe with bolt on ond bolt off cat section going threw one box with a bore size of 3 1/2inch

BTB have to have large orders dont they? Also i have heard that they are loud which is what i dont want.
I could get a custom place called AAS in newcastle to make one up for me, just wondered if there was any off the shelf ones available..
Also, on other thing; if i put the turbo exhaust on now with a large bore, will it affect my performance till i put the turbo kit on? i.e loose power with large bore..

TBH i wouldnt bother with a sports cat. Just put your whole standard system on when MOT time comes. If its set up right it should pass.

    BTB all the way

BTBs are not loud untill you boot it.

Carworx "used" to make custom turbo exhausts, dont know if they still do....

Unless your running over 300bhp you wont need anything over 3" so 2 1/2 will be fine. Which is what a btb is and you shouldnt notice a loss for the time being
  7. #7
its a 2002 vtr so the cat is in the manifold, so when putting the turbo manifold on, no cat. Need a sport cat of somekind...
Il look into BTB's or the custom place called AAS

you could use a standard vts exhaust system when mot time comes. Just make the turbo down pipe finish were a standard manifold would...
  9. #9
good idea, just would prefer to have no hassle of changing stuff over. il look into it.
Just looking for the exhaust at the minute, who suppies the BTB's? GMC?
any other exhaust you can think of that are quiet, like the magnex...

Not with a decent bore no.

Your best of looking for a second hand btb as im 99% sure they wont make anymore untill they have 10 orders
  11. #11
GMC last i heard might have a couple left.

    or as said second hand.

and btbs are not to loud
  12. #12
well il look into btb's and AAS do some quality stuff too.
Anyone know about the turbo manifolds from cituning and carworx?
Iv heard that they are made from a certain type of steel that WILL crack over time, so i want to buy the best that will last as although i want some decent power, i want this set up to run safely and reliably..

DP Engineering is the only place i would buy turbo parts from.

Give GMC a call. John deals with DP and he will get you the RIGHT parts

just been looking at dp stuff, looks really good, might get the manifold from there.
one thing i dont understand is oil feed with a turbo. where does the turbo get oil from? if using an oil cooler does this just circulate oil round the turbo and cooler or does it connect to the engine/block in some way?
  15. #15
    anyone?
  16. #16
BTB would be the one to go for

the oil feed is taken from the oil pressure switch on the front of the block
the oil cooler is fed from a sandwich plate between the oil filter and the block, or if your turbo is very close you will need to relocate the filter with a mocal kit

BTB is the best off the shelf type system for the saxo or go custom, Janspeed custom made my stainless 2.5 inch system but was £800

as for the guy who has the 3.5 system, unless your running 400bhp its way too big

So the oil feed is taken from the front of the block which i presume is done by a secure fixing not creating any problems and it returns through the sump somehow...how does that work?
    thanks for the hep

anyone know anything about the above question i asked?
also, when turbo's have an 'actuator' is this what you can change the boost on? so if a gt25 turbo has a 6psi actuator, it can run at up to 6psi?

with having a 2.5 inch bore exhaust on for a while without the turbo, will i lose any power? significant enough to notice?...

the oil feed is taken from the oil pressure switch, you need to T piece it off and restrict it
you can see the T piece in this pic

    and here

for the return you need to weld a pipe in the top of the sump, it has to be as high as you can so it doesnt fill with oil blocking the oil coming from the turbo

yes the acctuator is waht controls the boost pressure, you can adjust them by adjusting the length of the bar on it or you can fit a bleed off valve which can bleed off the air raising the boost, if you do this you need the car mapped at the top boost leve you want to run

mine was mapped at 16psi but i could turn it down to 6psi for everyday driving or if i needed to drive it in the wet

cheers mate, in the pics there is somekind of part with two pipes coming out of it, iv seen these in turbo kit pics, what is it? does the oil filter not go there?
also, with the oil feed and stuff in that place, is there enough room for the manifold and turbo to go infront?
  23. #23
thats an oil filter take off, its hard to fit the oil filter with the turbo there so you can buy a Mocal kit to move it

and the feed and return are not that big so it all fits in
you can see the feed coming round the turbo here
  24. #24
cheers for the help and pics mate.
does anyone know if having a 2.5 inch bore exhaust on the standard car for a while, will it lose significant power to notice?
  25. #25
    bump...
  26. #26
bump on the above question anyone?
  27. #27
the back pressures will be different so yes you will prob notice a little drop in power
  28. #28
think it will affect the 0-60 time much? or lose significant torque?
