#2Anything other than a standard one from my experience, lol.
-
#3any ideas?
-
#4just get an pug s1 rallye or 1.4 xsi box for now...
-
#5Any more details on the carworks boxes?
You got a torque/rpm graph?
What box you using at the moment?
What sort of clutch you using? -
#7although my spec isnt up to yours, im going for an xsi box with a diff fitted, what you thought about getting a box with a diff fitted?
-
#8ive got the 1.4 box and its defo worth it in 3rd 4t and 5th :o 1st is a bit useless tbh and 2nd
big improvement over standard.. not sure if it can handle charger needs tho
-
#9the gearbox comes shot peened, polished gearset and slip diff from them.as for torque etc it is o longer supercharged,am putting a turbo on it at the moment.i was just running standard box with helix clutch on the supercharger

#10where is all the knowledge these days lol
-
#11depends what you want from it.
As said the s1/xsi boxes are probs the best to get, and if your wanting a good box add a slip diff, mines costing me just under a grand to get the xsi box with all new bearings, seals and sychro's plus the diff all put together, how much are carworx charging?
Although not sure what the s1 box would be like with the turbo as bullit mentions
I would of thought it would be cheaper to get the box done yourself rather than go to carworx.
As for knowledge, theres not many people if any with an upgraded box on here, there are a few who i would take advise from who know what they are on about but they havent commented in here -
#12If you’re sticking with the ma box for now, I’d also stick with the standard ratios (VTS/Gti). Get a quaife atb differential in there…
I don’t think the gearsets the weakest link in the ma box, and I’m not too sure how effective the shot peening would be, but if you can afford it I suppose it could be better than nothing…
The reason I asked about the clutch was because I’ve seen a few people using solid centre plate clutches on boosted saxos… I’m not too clued up with all the brands etc but if it’s got a solid centre bin it asap!
With a 60% hike in torque, it should be absolutely fine to rag it through all gears bar 1st… any more then just don’t rag it in 2nd either…
It will be more likely to break through fatigue, through multiple loadings rather than from one torque…so just take car of it!! Don’t wheelspin it, avoid low gear raggings, quick standing starts, use a sprung clutch plate and make nice smooth gear changes!
The turbo will be a lot worse for the box than the supercharger…If you have any dyno graphs that you cold post then that would be good… -
#13If your talking for a boosted car just stick a AP Suretrac LSD in a stock MA box. That is if AP still do these if not you can just make do with a ATB. Its a good starting point at least. Another good way of making a stock box last is just using a boost controller. Also a nice TC will help if your ECU has this. If it is for a boosted car absolutely avoid any lower boxes, if anything you want a taller box.
I should add that BE boxes are not that strong and have many of the problems as the MA. The biggest problem is the small drive input. GMC were offering larger drive inputs for the MA box and lug drive clutch but no one wanted them so do not think they aver sold them. That’s not to say the BE is bad its just not that much better than the MA and you don’t get equal length drive shafts so torque steer make power steering your friend with them.
