307 Brakes HELP

  1. #1
Right them my mate has got a 307 for spares its a 1.6 16v.

Firstly what size brakes will it have and will they fit a vtr if they are 289mm what sort of work is required to make the caliper fit because i have seen the 266mm conversion done in Performance French Cars and it just neede a little nipple thingy grinding of the caliper carrier. Does this apply to the 289 mm conversion????

secondly will the engine out of this fit in the saxo because i think it the same as a c2 and other newer 16v motors. Cheers

i have already done a search and not found the right information Any help is much appreciated

the engine wont fit without alot of work and money mate. as for the calipers i don think they will fit either
  3. #3
im pretty sure the 307 1.6 16v is a 266 mm setup, if so only a small amount of grinding is required (i think on the carrier? correct me if wrong)

so just measure disc and if its 266mm, you should be fine.

If you are fitting 283mm brakes (the ones on the gti 180) then expect a lot of pedal travel. What wheels have you got on?

I dont know if the 307 has 266 (206GTI brakes) or 283 tbh. You will have to measure. I may be able to find out from my service box at work.

i can find out for definate tomorrow. i think the 307 hdi is 266 mm.
  6. #6
    right:

    307 1.4 is 266mm
    307 1.6 16v is 283mm
    307 2.0 16v is 283mm
    307 1.4 hdi is 266mm
    307 2.0 hdi is 283mm

    hope this helps you mikevtr

Cheers matey thats helpful to me where did you find this out mate so it looks like the brakes are 283mm so how much work is required to fit these brakes then many thanks to all

    What's mine then?

    1.6 HDI 307?
  9. #9
you could probablies get 307 brakes to fit if you make up some brackets
  10. #10
Well in the performance french cars mag they got the callipers off a 1.4 307 which is 266m and they had to grind a nipple off the carrier just wondered if the same applies to the larger ones cheers for your input
  11. #11
if your good with metaln theres no reason why you cant make up some brackets to fit them mate, otherwise get to and engineering place and they wil help you out
  12. #12
i arent that good with metal i can weld and do basic things with metal but i wouldnt say i am good
  13. #13
what size alloys you got on tr mate??
  14. #14
They are 15 inch momo gtr wheels look ok but i just need some brakes to fill them up and stop the car because the brakes on the car are hopeless
  15. #15
well i have organised a group buy on wilwoods if your interested, lowest price would be about 400 delivered i think
  16. #16
they will fit, just needs a little bit of grinding.

most 307s use 283mm brakes, some 1.4s use 266mm but a lot use 283, all estates use 283.
  17. #17
what needs grinding then because i have got some 307 calipers for a tenner cheap as chips ey and they only have 30,000 on them buzzin only thing i need is some discs and pads but they are on ebay i am getting them this weekend so i could do with a guide on how to fit the 283 brakes off a 307 many thanks and will be rep'd hope they go on without any hastle
  18. #18
well you would have to fit them then try the wheels on rotate them and see where they are catching
  19. #19
Will they scrape on the wheels because the cyclones are 15 inch arent they and they dont scrape do they do you have to grind the carrier like you have to with the 266mm because i am getting the calipers they are cheap as chips for the calipers so i am looking for a guide for anyone that has fitted them to their car cheers mate

my 283mm brakes are off one of these albeit a sw variant - they fit fine and needed no modifications.

1.6 calipers wont fit. im sure its the 1.4 tbh
  22. #22
307 calipers will fit a saxo with no grinding necessary.
  23. #23
Why dont the 1.6 calipers fit then off a 307
  24. #24
ffs. i have 307 1.6 brakes on my saxo with no mods needed!!!
  25. #25
so they just bolt straight on then i know the discs will bolt on ok i was just unsure about the calliper carriers because the 266mm calipers require a nipple grindig off them to give clearance so i just wondered if the larger carriers need the same so i am going to get them this weekend and they will bolt straight on then cant wait now to get them on and get them bedded in
  26. #26
Johnnyg_vts could you get me some pictures of how to get the calipers on and i will rep you again and i have got you on my buddy list now cheers matey it would be greatly appreciated many thanks

2 bolts to the rear attach the caliper to the hub - remove these and reattach the new brakes with them. dead simple, also you need to swap the hoses and bleed your brakes to get rid of air in the system.
  28. #28
so your sayin use the original saxo brake bolts which are 19 mm bolts and its as easy as that just out of interest what year and engine did the 307 brakes come from mate
  29. #29

  32. #32
