d-cat question

  1. #1
i own a 02 plate vtr and was told i cant d-cat it because the cat is on the down pipe just below the manifold. is this true or can it be done. or if i got a sports cat and a straight frew pipe would it still sound just as good?

Had this discussion with a garage yesterday, I have a Y reg 2001 VTR, and unfortunatly my cat sits on the manifold so if I de-cat it, it'll fail an MOT. The only way around that would be to have the cat put back on so it goes through an MOT but that's just hassle in my opinion. Apparently I can't have a sports cat on it either...

    I have decatted mk2 VTR

You need to buy yourself a performance manifold. I.e. raceland, which costs about £150. This will decat it.

    However, this will fail MOT's.

Janspeed sell a 4 branch manifold which has a high flow cat, so this will not hinder performance and it will pass MOT's

    Or...

You could put a decat manifold on it, then at mot time put the cat in the centre section.

You could cut out a section of the pipe and insert the cat into with clamps.
