Question for turbo guys

  1. #1
Whats the minimum budget i would need to turbo a vtr if i (well my dad) did all the work, my dads been a mechanic since he was 17 so he cant fit everything and hes mapped loads of bikes on the dyno he used to own so maybe i could just use a megasquirt to keep costs down? people will probably say "if your asking questions you shouldnt do it" but it wont be me so i just want an idea on parts cost,

    Cheers

i would of thought that turbo would be much too big?
on a basic conversion you would only want a small turbo, less lag and not soo much power it will throw a rod or similar.

try looking for a garret gt25 or smaller.

That turbo is way too large mate

To be fair i think if your going for something as "big" as a turbo conversion, you should spend what needs spending, rather that what you can spend, in my personal opinion, i think that your much more likely to run into problems with a small budget, which makes you spend more

I know its possible to make a really good turbo conversion form little money! However you "could" run into large problems

could any one tell me if this turbo sounds suitable?

    Turbine casing: A/R.63
    Trim (turbine wheel): 0.73
    Diameter of turbine wheel: 65.5/56
    Trim (compressor wheel): 0.50
    Diameter of comp wheel: 76.2/50.5
    Flange dimensions: 85.5 x 45.5
Diameter of air inlet and outlet (comp housing): 76/51
    Maximum speed (rpm): 120,000
Maximum durative working temperature: 700 deg. C
Maximum temperature of inlet gas in one hour: 750 deg. C
Maximum rate of compressed air: 3.0
    Range of fulx (kg/s): 0.12 to 0.35
Suited power range (hp): 139 to 210

I think im gonna start buying bits as and when i have money

use a 200sx turbo imo, get it rebuilt so you know its reliable.
  9. #9
or just buy an s13 200sx, i attempted a cheaper turbo conversion on my vtr and lets just say i had to change the engine, on a small budget i found you will cut corners and wont build a reliable conversion. I had terrible boost problems under and over fueling. gaskets going, even fires!!!!
