Garett T15 on VTS

    Hello,
I am going to turbo my saxo. So at this moment i have cooler and garett t15 turbo. Do you think T15 can handle 170-180hp? I don't need more than this power but i need a good response that's why i am after a small turbo. We've already made VTR with K03 and the car is very fast not measered on dyno yet.

It will be much too small, i would say an absolute minimum would be a T20, really you need a T25.

A T15 would be much more at home on a petrol engine below a 1.4.

use and escort rst t3 turbo, as t2, t25, t28 runs out of puff.

the amount of lag between each of the above is almost negligable.

t28 runs out of puff? the t28 which is standard on a pulsar/200sx is good for upto around 280bhp!
  5. #5
depends what car its taken from,

pulsars, fair enough, i dont know much about them.

RST's etc all went t3 or t34 as were all running out of high end power with t2,t2.5 and t28.

I know it will be muchg better with T25/28 but i have T15 that's why i am asking how it will be.
  7. #7
hes after good response not high end power

to be honest i reckon its gonna be a bit too small. I believe VAG use them on their tdis upto 110 bhp and use a larger turbo for the 130and 150 bhp engines

Simo ran a garrett T2 for 190@wheels so T2 will be fine
  9. #9
fair enough, depends how far your going to go tho doesnt it,
  10. #10
So if it's possible 190hp at the wheels with T2 should be possible to get 160-170hp at the wheels?
  11. #11
    Yes I would say so

T15 would suit a 1.1 or 1.4 fine, what you will find with the T15 is that you will be boosting at full chat very low down probably from 2k+ and it will struggle higher up, saying that the T15 should be able to give you alot more useable mid rsnhe torque

    gt35

    Joke...
T2 would be fine i would of thought, it's all well and good naming the names but what about the sizes?

The thing is though that using a smaller turbo to make a fair bit of boost will cause the inlet charge temps to rise a fair bit, and will restrict the exhaust a lot. This is not good.
As said in some posts above it depends what car it's off, some T2s are much bigger than others, in fact the same size as some T25s.

Remember that say a 1.1 will consume a lower volume of air for the amount of boost you're running, compared to a 1.6, so higher in the rev range when the 1.6 wants lots of air the T15 won't be able to supply. It'll probably be spinning up at idle ffs, full boost well below 2k, probably out of puff by 4k.

What's £100 for a used T2/25 in the big scheme of things?

I will try to see how it will be with T15 and then will change it with T25. They use the same flange so it will not be a problem to swap. I got T15 for free that's why i want to try it Will try to make the cheapest turbo convertion We've made VTR turbo for 600 euro and is fuc.. fast and reliable and even cheap on fuel.

    t15

that vtr turbo musnt have adequate brakes or suspension for that price, and there is no such thing as a vtr turbo that is cheap on fuel. also considering the prices on fuel managment systems, i doubt yours was a good setup for600 euro

No. Have a look at a new GT spec turbo.

That is quite impressive but what was the spec of the T2 he used? I only ask as that is pushing even the biggest T2 way past its design threshold even on a VTS. It must have been a hybrid I would imagine as the heat produced on any T2 comp wheel would be off the scale. How did he stop the boost creeping? Was he using a external waste gate? For the sort of power he was running you would normally be looking at one of the larger T25s at a minimum or more likely a roller bearing unit.

It depends on the spec of the turbo it self. Dont forget the T3 came on cars from the 90bhp metro turbo to the 215+bhp cossie. They may all be T3s but there very much not alike. You can get T25s that in some aplicasions will show more power than some T3s. Though the smaller cores do tend to be noticeably less lagy. Though really the hold T series is old had and out dated these days.
