paint guns, compressors and paint - help please

hey guys, basically i have a fair few parts that require painting and rather than sending them all to a bodyshop which will be expensive im thinking about buying an air compressor and paint gun. i have done a fair amount of body work / wheel refurbs before so im not worried about the painting, but i have no idea what i should be looking for.

is this good enough for the job

also how does the paint work, i can buy 1 litre tins but do you have to mix it with tinners or celusos etc or do you just spray.
what bar/psi do i spray at
also my clio is the silver with like a blue pearl in it, is that due to the clear coat having a tint or is it just in the paint, ie if i bought colour matched paint would it look the same.

im also a bit confused about colour sanding is this done after laquering using a really high grit paper like 1200 or higher and then portacabled to bring out the shine

    any advice would be great
    cheers

links not working for me but all i can say the bigger the capacity for air the better mate anything over 25 is good

bt some cleaning fluid or tack rags to fully prep the surface before painting they doa great job of lifting any dirt and dust etc

for the paint id be mixing it with thinners to prevent the paint clogging up then end and creating spatters etc, may be best for you to practice on some cardboard or scrap panels tbh, its also best to flush the spray gun out with how water after use but make sure you get all the water out for the next time you use it

im sure you can get the pearl in laquers as well as the paint itself but its more commonly used in paints

and yeah after the laquer has cured sand it back and use some very fine grit paper like 2500 with water then use a porter cable to get a floorless finish, again its always best to practice on scrap panels

tbh its best to ire out a booth for the day if your doing parts mate as you need a dust free area, why dont you just do the prep work yourself ive seen some of the work youve done its floorless, then just got to a pro sprayer to put the paint on, it wont be as much, prep is what costs the most

i wish i took up car body repair and spraying, but i was told to go ito plumbing as theres more money, i still may do a course though is something i would love to learn fully

Need to mix hardner in with paint as well.
As for cleaning , you are better off with proper gun cleaner as as Pred said, you dont want water in with the paint the next time you use it.
You can get low pressure spray guns which work with smaller compresors. Your probably best off talking to an equipment supplier about what sort will suit your needs best, then buying a spray gun and compressor that will work with each other imo

compreesor the bigger the better, spay gun you can get somewhere like machinemart they do reasonble copies of good guns,
depends on what your useing as far as paint goes
2k you need hardner and thinners for laquer,
a universal thinner for base coat
water based base you need water still the same for laquer
if useing water based make sure no bare metal or will rust!!!
if you req more info p.m. me

cheers for the replies guys, i think i will just go with preds method and do the prep work as buy the time ive bought a bigger compressor and guns etc it wont be much difference. if i can do any necessary fibre glass work and prep the parts with a base primer layer. then it should keep the cost down in the body shop
