Q on tappets

   i know the basics on tappet adjustment and i how the rocker arms are accessed...
   
   and the clearances
   
   where do i put the feeler guage???
   
   would i be fucking around with timing as im no pro
   
   i should be looking for a tight fit but the metal must also slide...
   
   would adjusting tappets on a high mileage engine make a different to the noise or would it need new tappets???

   i thought u had a vts? vts uses hydraylic tappets and dont have rocker arms the cams stright on top of the hydraulic tappets. also hydraulic tappets are self adjusting they use the engine oil to continualy maintain the correct valve clearance, so should be fine unless there worn or damaged in which case they would be replaced.
   
   if u do have a vtr then they use non hytraulic tappets and rocker arms so would need adjusting, there is a guide here http://106owners.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=7995
