215/40/16 - Too Wide?

    215/40/16

Is that tyre size too big for the VT?. Im down 60mm and i get a small bit of scrape on 195/45/15. Fancy a bigger set of wheels but not sure how wide i can go with/without spacers.

I don't think that will fit, i know someone who has 17's on a saxo and they have had to use 195/40/17. It may work if you get some arch work done, but on its own, i don't think it will work, will probably rub.

    16s should run 195/40/16s!

personally i think they would be too big. id also go for a larger profile too mate, problembs with tyres that low are that ride is greatly effected and that when the tyres are replaced most garages can change the tyres without scraping the rims as 40's are like rubber bands

sorry that was meant to read 'most garages CANT change tyres that low without scraping the rims'

I think you could get away with 205's mate (its mentioned in Simo's 'fitting larger wheels' guide), but 215's is prob pushing it too much.

or be wise and ditch the 17's as they look too big on saxos anyway and go with some 16's or 15's.
he's asking about 16's mate, i'd defo agree though if it was about 17's they look too big
