Smoking at High Revs

  1. #1
When i get to high revs, my car is starting to give cough out burste of smoke

only when in higher revs from about 6 k revs
doesnt constatly smoke but will smoke then stop for duration of time then smoke for 2 second then stop and so on and on

i thought it was white but been told its black

checked oil and that and seems fine

    what can this be?

Just dont rev it up to 6k! Thats high enough anyway. Surely the limiter kicks in shortly after that.

well not as high as 6k then, maybe 5k but its defo something wrong

and not when i rev, its when i drive but smokes when rev is at about 5k doing approx 90 mph

    compression/leakdown test for POM.

    Peace Of Mind

Well if your piston rings are shot, this is know to cause smoke when on full throttle, although it could be lots of things, but it would be what i would check first.

As long as it's fully warmed up it's fine to rev all the way to the limiter.

As for the smoke, if it's black it's probably overfuelling and the smoke will contain fuel which isn't fully burnt. Unless you have started to see a huge increase in fuel consumption I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Typical causes of overfuelling are a faulty lambda sensor or coolant temperature sensor.
