How-to build an snap key remote control

  1. #1
    Hi everybody,

I want to show you how you can build you an snap key remote control for your saxo.
Therefore you need your original car key, your remote control from your alarm system and an universal remote key from ebay.

Note : I made this modification because the universal remote control is not compatible with my alarm system and so I can't programm it.

Here a list of material that is needed to do this modification.

    1. Material :

    1. screw driver
    2. marker
    3. cutter set
    4. superglue
    5. electrical tape
    6. piece of plastic
    7. Dremel

    1. plastic primer
    2. primer
    3. color spray
    4. putty
    5. protection mask
    6. sand paper

    1. original car key
    2. alarm remote control
    3. universal remote key
  2. #2
    2. Preparation :

    - Step 1 :

We start with the original citroen key by removing the transponder and the key blank.

First we need to remove the transponder from the original key because it controls the anti-theft device of the car
and without this transponder we can't start the engine.

On the picture you can see where the transponder is situated.

To remove it properly we need to make a little hole on the front of the key an remove the transponder with a tweezers.

And here we have the transponder.

Then we take the Dremel and we cut the key blank out of the plastic.

After that we take the key blanc and we cut a slot into it so that we can fix it into the remote key.

    - Step 2 :

Now we take the alarm remote control and we open it to remove the buttons an the electrical board.

    - Step 3 :

After having removed the electrical boards from the alarm remote control and the universal remote key we compare them
and we can see that their widths aren't much different.
So we try if the electrical board from the alarm remote control fits into the universal remote key.

    3. Creating the cover :

    - Step 1 :

Then we remove the buttons from the universal remote key and we start adjust the front cover of the alarm remote control
by cutting some bits of so that it fits into the front hole of the universal remote key.

    - Step 2 :

After that we start to fill the big empty spaces with bits of plastic using superglue.
Then we fill the rest with putty.

To receive a smooth surface we make use putty and sand paper.

    - Step 3 :

Then we can start with spraying. First we apply a coat of plastic primer and the a light coat of primer.
We wait some minutes and then we apply the other coats of primer until we cant see the putty.

    - Step 4 :

After the primer is dry we can start with the painting.

    4. Installing the key blank, the transponder, the buttons and the electrical board :

    - Step 1 :

We take the key blank and we fix it with screws into the universal remote key.

    - Step 2 :

Then we take the transponder and we place them in the top of the universal remote key.

    - Step 3 :

And now we place the electrical board into the universal remote key and we cover it with foamed plastic.

    5. Installing the key blank, the transponder, the buttons and the electrical board :

Now we can screw the front and the rear cover of the remote control together an we have a custom made
    snap key remote control.

Not much of a bump really >_>

Anyway on topic (Now its been bumped) I might have a go at this when I can get a Saxo, have a C2 currently and like it on that, that I couldn't stand not having it on another car =[

    Alryt...

Was Just Wondering... I've Only Got A Keyed Entry Into My Sax... But I've Bought A AfterMarket Remote Locking Box..

Would This Work With Just The Keyed Entry?

    Cheers
  35. #35
With the flip keys that have unlock buttons would they work with my sax if the transponder is in?
Probably sounds like a daft question tbf.

    Cheers for any help

normally yes, if the remote locking box has a remote controle.
if u buy an universal remote controle u must pay attention if they use the same frequency. When you buy a complet system (remote, control box) there is no problem fitting it into your sax, it would work.
