de-cat? help wots it mean?

   hi ya all
   
   im new to modding and have no idea wot De-Cat means? lol
   
   sori to be thick but just wondered and theres no harm in asking you lot is there
   
   all i know is it may be something to do with the exhaust etc? just want someone to explain and is it illegal too?

   de-cat means replace your existing cat with a straight through pipe, can even get sports cats which are abit more restrictive but pass mot.

   a decat is a pipe that can bypass the catalytic converter and this releases extra power as the exhaust gases can escape quicker when not having to travel through the cat.

   your car will fail it's M.O.T with a decat. most people just swap the decat over with the standard downpipe at m.o.t time

   de-cats r good cos theres no restrictions but got to change it for the cat once a year for MOT then put de-cat pipe back on

   i havent got one on my vtr - dont think i will - but im saving for a newer/better saxo this year and wanted know wot de-cat was as i wudnt want one on it now!

   u can get straight thro pipes I.E Supersprint, that have the cat bypass which will still leave ur cat there but still give the extra push

    cool - must be a good mod to have then as so many have got one fitted?? does this add to the sound though - if more air coming out quicker?

    Sounds nice I'm about to realize the pain in the ass part of them as i have mot at the beginning of April

    it's ok if you can do it yourself (which i will be) but if you got to get someone else to do it ti's to much of a pain

    I like my decatm but uts a pain at mot time. Sounds good, not asbo loud, quiet when cruising but comes on song at full chat.

    mines got no cat and it passed its MOT 1st time last year.....

    can having a decat cause any damage to the engine? had someone battling on about how the lack of backpressure can cause it to go slower? already got a cat back magnex system(midbox also removed) unsure about the decat as for now.
    
    what r ur views?

    As for the spec of my VTR well im not exactly sure of it all yet really - only had it for last 4wks guys
    
    Only mods on it are:
    
    Wolfrace Alloys 16's
    Momo Steering Wheel
    Induction Kit
    6x4 Magnets Rear Silencer
    Tuned Engine - 120BHP
    
    And recently i got the Tints done - 75% on the rear and 35% on the front - cost me £150
    
    Dunno wot else to do - plus its finding someone to actually help me also - lol - i am female you know xx
