Rear ARB Changing Guide? (FAO Willsy :))

   Does any body have a guide as to how to remove the rear Anti Roll Bar at all? I've had a search and noting came up and the Haynes manual only show the front ARB removal process

   You don't really need a guide matey, it's very straight forward. What part are you stuck on?

   I just need to know how to change the rear ARB - ie tools and a quick photo guide - got a VTS ARB from Willsy that I want to get fitted

   It's very simple.
   
   Ideally, you need a slide hammer with a 8mm MA bolt attached. But you can easily take one of the ARB plates off and knock the ARB out from that end anyway.
   
   Each ARB plate has a 13mm bolt, so you will need a standard tool such as a socket to remove it. You won't require any other specific tools.

   I've never looked at the rear beam before, so this will be a first for me

   I bought one just the other day actually. I went to a hardware store, which sells all sorts of drills, tool sets, bolts etc. There's a fairly common and also cheap slide hammer which cost about £20. What you will then need to do is, use the tools that come with the hammer thus to fit an 8mm MA bolt to the end of it. The hammer won't come with any bolts, but it will come which devices that allow you scew things to the end of it. You will be able to get 8mm MA bolts in the same hardware store. If you still don't have any joy by the end of the day, I'll take a pic of mine for you, so it gives you an idea of how it all works.

   its ok. looks like ive just worked it out Attach bolt to end of ARB hold handle and slide the slidy bit towards to the end with a bit of force to pull out the ARB
   
   so thats removal worked out, how would i get the new ARB in right (ie far enough etc )
   
   Have some love as well

    The ARB has threads on each end. To remove it with a slide hammer, the 8mm MA bolt is screwed into the thread, and then action of the slide hammer pulls the bar out. When you have removed the other ARB plate from the ARB, you will need to put one of the plates onto the new ARB. Then simply slide the new ARB back into position, and finish off by attaching the other ARB plate. By doing it in this order, you will have the ARB correctly positioned.

    Same fitment is used by the torsion bars too. So if you ever need to change those, the slide hammer and same 8mm MA bolt will come in handy.

    u may not need a slide hammer, as my arb was only stuck in one of the end plates.. i bought a new end plate.. but u could just bash it with a big hammer to release it...
    
    i'm sure it wont be in there very tightly.. so once the plates are removed.. u can just pull it out..
    
    don't go to the expense of buying a slide hammer just for changing the arb.. as it shouldnt be needed.. try without it first..
    
    what are you changing the arb for? a vts/106 gti one?

    Yip, I bought Willsys when he upgraded his its going from an (18mm?) to the VTS ARB
    
    Thats not a bad idea actually- just remove one plate and pull it out the other side saves time and money

    its 22mm over the 18mm one thats on the 1.1 atm

    I work on Saturdays... I'm planning to get it sorted tomorrow I've still yet to order my new disks and pads for the VT brake setup i've got waiting to go on the front - got to get the callipers painted as well

    that ok mate iv got a vts am im changing mine to 24mm off 106gti loads of people thing the vts an gti are the same size but by the sound of it there not thanks an good luck with changing it mate

    cheers, yeah the VTS is 22mm and the GTi is 24mm (thats the upgrade that willsy did)

    After I've got the job list clear, i'm looking at putting a Spax PSX kit on there and drooping the fron -40 and the rear -40 or 50 depending on how firm the rear dampers are (as with the weight in the boot and having people in the back everynow and again i don't want to be riding on the bump stops )

    all i did to remove the arb is take the rubber plug out of the passengers side take one of the bolts off the shock remove the drivers side arb plate bolt then screw the bolt from the shock into the arb on the passengers side and that will push it out the drivers side lol easy

    lol, I ended up getting a pair of new end plates from citroen as one was bent and the other just wouldnt come off the old arb...
