can I suggest purchasing an accurate oil temperture gauge first.

People often fit oil coolers without first determining if they need one in the first place. Overcooling oil is as bad as oil that is too hot

wouldnt bother on a standard engine tbh, cant see you needing it!

and that matt lewis racing isnt the best of places, i bought a cooler and it turned up with damaged hoses which he made extremly awkard to replace and i eventually got a refund out of him, plus the oil hoses that he sends with the kit are useless coz there so short

With a sandwich plate its not going to overcool is it..

Also an engine which has some wear when driven hard can lose oil pressure and the oil will get hotter than it should, you know this Kam..

Keeping the oil temp where it should be will keep the pressure at its optimum and therefore no premature engine wear will occur..Also helps a worn oil pump carry on working as it should when the pressure is where it should be..

    Thats about right..lol

Why does a VTS have a oil cooler std then?

Alot of engines come with them come to think of it..

All in all dude, i would defo get one, your car probably wont ever need it, but if on a trackday something goes wrong it may well save your engine..My oil pressure/temp light never came on but i still got one as its one less thing to go wrong..

As for pics, i dont have any decent ones but i mounted mine on the crossmember infront of the radiator where Citroen Sport mounted them to the Super 1600's..

There are pipes that come from a plate where the oil filter is to the rad pipes, not sure if it's for cooling or warming of the oil tho.

yeh i know, but i was saying a mocal cooler on similar isnt needed on a standard engine, i did plenty of laps on the ring back to back and never had a problem with the oil temp it sat happily just over half all the time.

Raped mine around donington for 20 mins a time, oil was fine. But if you do decide you need one, dont buy a 100 quid kit. The bits alone are cheaper.

    M20 SAndwich plate.
    Hose with 1/2BSP fittings
    Oil cooler.

Then a pressure/temp gauge will need the correct fittings, demon tweeks have all the bits for them.

not sure whether you are agreeing or disagreeing with me there. Most modern synthetic oils are shear stable up to 120-130degrees
A lot of engine builders are of the concensus that a sump temp of 100-110degrees is ideal for a modern engine.
