hey. im going down to halfords today to get paint for my silver meshed mk2 grille. ive read the guide! wanting to do it black. what gear do i need? grey primer, 1200 grit paper, black paint, clear lacquer?
is it halfords' own gloss or is matt black paint or citroen paint i need?

just to note make sure you sand down the surface of the mesh well so the primer can really grip on.. i used an electric mouse sander to roughen the surface...

20 quid and an hour n half later, 3 coats primer on!

anyone any tips for when painting black to get good even coverage while doin the underside bits as well?

Position the grille so you can spray in small short bursts in the crooks and crannies once u have covered those evenly continue with the easier parts. try to get the spray consistent and even...

btw you should sand between primer coats to get it smooth and then leave the final primer coat upto 12 hours to harden, i would then start with the gloss -do the same process and wait 12 hours before adding the laquer... if ur pushed for time i would maybe half those times tops...

dont rush it otherwise the finished result will show this.

post a pic when ur done.

p.s. is it just the mesh ur spraying or the grill?

for mesh ull have to wait till one side is dry no shortcuts.

im leaving it til thurs before i start with the black gloss. yea i gently sanded between primer coats. the guy before me who meshed it left it a bit short so i mite get new black mesh.

3rd coat of black done ahead of schedule. do i need to sand it at all before applying lacquer?
