New Shocks, springs, etc etc

Hey guys, ive decided to go along the lines of getin a whole ne suspension setup, consisting of new shocks (maybe fully adjustable), new springs & new rear dampers. is there anything else you can put on a sax??

Now im not expert on suspension set ups, but im wanting somthing which is the best for handling, with very little body roll and basically a good firm setup!

I have not got a clue where to start, and im hoping some of you fellas can point me towards some decent bit of kit! Obviously i no you get what you pay for but im not rich put it that way!

I just allways remember my grandads B-reg XR3i going around bends like it was on rails, no body roll jst straight around!

thats how i want my sax, comfort is no longer an option, just all out grip will do me!

    Cheers guys!

    http://www.gmaxsuspension.co.uk/prod...cts_id=1250573

and these rear shocks to cope with the rear torsion bar being adjusted to suit?
    http://www.gmaxsuspension.co.uk/prod...cts_id=1251032

Now is this a good piece of kit?? or could i get better??

all im wanting is some VERY good road holding with as little body role as possible!

it depends how much you have to spend really mate, you had a look on kam racing? there are some Blistien B8's which would be alot better, and if you could strech to it you could have the Group N Billies with 155lbs falkner springs for i think 480! that would handle pretty good then!
how low is you tortion bar?
  5. #5
hey mate, money is not going to be an option, all save for a good setup! my torsion bar is at standard height at the moment, but the front is lowerd approx 50mm (bought the car like this)

go for spax vsx kit 40mm drop good handlin and cheap for what you get bout 160 quid thats what i did

    Alright mate,

you do get what you pay for, so a 150 quid suspension set-up aint going to be the best, if you dont care about ride quality etc then some group n billies will be the way forward,
    like these= http://www.kam-racing.com/product_in...ucts_id/100176

35mm that kit will lower your car and it will be worth it, also you could buy some bigger tortion bars, 23mm would be very stiff. like this...
    http://www.kam-racing.com/product_in...roducts_id/942

then also some bigger anti roll bars, stiffen the body roll abit like these..
    http://www.kam-racing.com/product_in...roducts_id/941

then i would say go for a lower strut brace, if you had all this then the car would handle bloody awesome, Obv this is alot of money to spend on suspension.
Tires would also be a big factor to consider, you will need grip to handle! so some yoko a539's would have to be in order!

you will have to remember though, stiffness is not everything.
The springs control the body roll and also the anti roll bars. You do need some body roll to transfer the weight for decent handling. Especially if you run with road tyres.

Too stiff and you'd find the car too skitish over the bumps (and when you ride kerbs on track). and all your fillings fall out. Can also mean that the forces acting on the suspension are transfered to the body shell to the extent that the shell will flex before your suspension. Then you have to get a roll cage and strut braces et all to stiffen up the chassis.

There is also the suspension geometry to consider also. The lower you go the more likely you are to get bump steer due to the geometry being out.

The main advantage of the lower car is the centre of gravity. Not worth compromising the handling for though.

There you go mate. how's that?

i had the spax adjustable kit on my old vtr, found it to be very good and excellent value
  11. #11
I would say that is bloody great!!! ive bene talking to KAM about those shocks and springs, (the group N ones) and thats what im going with, also get the rear shocks with that kit, so they will be going on, then ill get gettin the torsion bar adjusted to suit, dont think ill be getting the bigger rear torsion bar altho i may in the future, but i might upgrade the anit roll bars!

I reckon with that spring and shocker setup and some bigger/better anti roll bars il be looking at a good suspension setup which will show up most cars worth a hell of alot more than my sax!

And as for tires i will be running Michellen Pilot Exaltos which i have found grip very well on my ZR, dont like the Toyo Proxes that are on at the minute, nope dont like them one bit!!!

Have some rep for your write up!!! very informative!!

oh yes with that suspension you will show people a thing or two about grip. glad i could help.

Billies are the right way matey!!!
  14. #14
bilstiens are a lot better tbh
but its wether you budget can stretch to them
  15. #15
    Very good advice bud ^^

Answered a few questions i had aswell...Breaks also make a huge difference to performance and some aspects of handling (when braking esp. obviously)

Very true matey, they dont come cheap!! when i got mine it left me bit skint for few weeks!!!

If you got a budget to stick to,wel billies are not the road to go down!! but there are other good makes to get!! i had G-max on me other saxos....Was bad.....
