Plastic primer

    Hi,
is it necessary to use a primer on plastic? I am asking regarding my dimma spoiler as my spray can plastic primer is rubbish for the large area of the spoiler.

I have also had a BIG problem with paint seperating on the top side of the spoiler, i think it may be silicone or something engrained on the surface. It is not grease as it was prepared properly (thinners etc). I have rubbed it down now thoroughly and will try again. Any 1 else had this problem?

you will definitely need primer on plastics. rub it down first then apply.

if you've already rubbed it down & used a degreaser then not sure what it could be. i'd be tempted to take something as big as a spoiler to a local place to spray for me.

mine was fine for spraying (when bodyshop fitted it)
Yes I would use plastic primer though. Dont worry about the can being crap, as its only undercoat. Can sand it down in between coats anyway.
Normal primer will just flake/peel over time.

any ideas why it may be seperating Alex ?

if plastic primer wasnt used, then thats the problem.
Only other thing I can think of , is make sure there is no water/silicone or the like in the little Dimma badge that is on the top half of the spoiler as this is not good under paint.

yeah plastic primer was used but the only plastic specific pimer i can find comes in a spray can and its rubbish. doesnt produce a proper fan to spray with.

Just phoned a local garage and they said they would use a general high build primer, not a plastic specific one. Think i may give this a try.
