i no its been coverd and asked, and I HAVE SEEN THE THREADS!! but is there actally a guide some where?

thinking off doing this next time i get paid. what else is needed apart from engine/box?

will i need the same year loom as my car now? for sensors? earths ect?

also what about drive shafts ect? can vtr driveshafts be used?

    repped for decent answers cheers.

If it's the same age then engine, loom and ECU is all you need. You'll need to sort out your immobiliser setup (ideally from the donor car or with an unlocked ECU).

Something from the same age car should make it easier (the looms between Mk1 & Mk2 are quite different).

You'll be okay to use your original gearbox (it's fractionally lower geared, so will give slightly better acceleration). Similarly, the original driveshafts should be fine.

    Cheers

I've never done the conversion on a VTR, but have dropped a few on other 106s (incl my Rallye). I'm guessing there's no real difference. Wiring will be your biggest problem I reckon - even though the engines in the GTi and VTS are the same, the wiring seems to be quite different in places. Sticking Cit-Cit will definitely make it easier.

how reliable will the car be after a conversion?

and how much would someone charge to do a full conversion roughly? £800 labour?

VTR box is longer so you will decrease in acceleration slightly

try and get a engine the same year as your car, ecu box engine transponder etc unless the engine ecu off the donor car was unlocked / disconnected propperly.
