I would get better brakes, 1.1 1996 brakes are crap if i must say.

hey mate, an engine change usually depends on who fits it! shouldnt take more than 2 days tho! you shouldnt have many probs using the 1.1 gear box as the saxo ones are pretty much the same apart from the gear ratio's!

    have you bought an engine?

the 1.1 gearbox will be fine, but why are you not getting the gearbox with the engine.should be a straight foward swap
  5. #5
1.1 gearbox will give better acceleration due to the ratio of it! i still use my vtr box on my vts engine!
  6. #6
well the engine doesnt come with the gearbox, so im just gunna use my 1.1 gearbox. do i have to buy/replace any parts during the change?
  7. #7
engine mounts should come with the engine but id expect they'd need changing. u also need to have the ecu, keys, imobiliser box but with you having an early saxo am i right in saying you have the key pad imobiliser? the 99 engine wouldnt have used on of those so i dont know if that would be a problem?

brakes would also be a good idea to change as the 1.1 brakes tend to be poor.

i would change the clutch and the driveshafts, seeing as the whole engine/gearbox is out anyway, saves time/money later on.

wat am i gunna do about this keypad immobaliser?
  10. #10
think as long as you have the immobiliser and key from the new engine, you can just disconnect the keypad.
  11. #11
    why the key?
  12. #12
the key has the immobiliser transponder in it i think.
  13. #13
but if i have an early keypad then my key wont have the bits to except the transponder?
  14. #14
yeah you will use the key that was from the donor engine, the keys on the newer saxo's have a chip in the key. so if you do have the imobiliser box that sits behind the glove box then you should be ok by disconnecting the keypad.
  15. #15
but there will be no pick up ring around the ignition barrel because this system was not used because the key pad was the immobiliser.

You could go about getting the transponder pick up ring, the black immobiliser box and wiring and that should work or you could try http://www.convery.me.uk/ecu-unlock.html

ahh Damn it.. Just as I found that damn page by Rob, ol' Scott comes along and posts it !
    Great guide that is!
  17. #17
so if i start my car with the immobaliser code then unplug the keypad while running, turn the engine off then try starting it without the keypad?
  18. #18
ignore the keypad it shouldnt affect the new ecu, i mean use the above guide on the new ecu from the new engine
  19. #19
is there anyway i can just have it unimmobalised
  20. #20
no idea, try an auto electrician but your still going to have problems with the new engine ecu looking for the transponder pick up. By doing the above it would be unlocked and would be unimmobilised.

thats what i want tho, its got a pretty solid alarm on it so im not worried.
