Where can i get faux leather

  1. #1
Im looking for faux leather to cover my boot install i have built. It needs to have a little stretch in it due to the shape of my build.

I dont want to buy it from ebay as you cant really see the material, i want somewhere i can get a sample sent out before i order.

Rep will be given as this is becoming a nightmare for me!!!

hey, if i was you i would just get the big yellow book out (yellow pages lol) and ring around some upulsters in your area, i did when i was ooking to get my seats retrimmed and they can sell it off the shelf and u can also go down on view it.

I also have a carpet/curtain/cushion warehouse near me, who sell roles of fabrics/leater etc, might be worth trying to look up some of them and going down, usually pretty cheap

it doesnt stretch much by the way, i didmy boxes with it though and they came out fine, few creases but couldnt help them with the box actually being a shape lol, creases match on both boxes so its fine

Defo look on ebay and if you can get it locally so you can maybe go and see the material before you buy it, or try looking on the net for like crafts shops / material shops etc. Traders would be good so to get it at trade price. - good luck

Thanks for your help guys rep given where i can!!!!

Do you think the padded stuff will be ok to retrim my door cards too?
My boot build has chevrons cut into it will the material be messy around them do you think????
My build is basically a piece of mdf angled up from my boot floor, with two 10" subs at the top and chevrons cut out at the bottom with my amp underneath so you can see it thru them. The nest prob is wiring the thing up lol

it should be fine trimming the install, around the chevrons thenit may look ok as the material is a bit stretchy

with regards to the doorcards, you probablies can but get a few pairs of hands on the job and it makes it a bit easier, problem is around the armrest, you will be stretching it so much that eventually the material will pull away from around there, its happened to mine with the faux suede

How do i get the original material off the door cards??
If i use spray glue will it still come off??
  10. #10
spray glue is what i used but with leather its different you need a much stronger glue like contact adhesive, stil with this there is the chance of it coming away, upholsterers usually stitch along the arm rest to make the piece of leather in 2 pieces, therefore it doesnt come away as easily

as for getting the material off the panel is made up of two panels, they heatstake them at factorys, the mushroom shaped bits of plastic on the back of the doorcard with the holes in, these are the heatstakes, what you have to do is remove them by using a dremel drill (best thing to us) but be careful, the trick is to leave as much of the plastic on as possible, so when it comes to putting the panle back together its lines up correctly

once the panel is off there is also the door pull surround to take odd, using the same method, and then rip the material off, its also best to remove the foam thats left, use a wire brush on a drill

then retrim the panel, be patient and get some help

then to put the panel back together clamp up around the heatstakes and use a soldering iron with bits of plastic to melf back around to keep the panel in place, it takes some time but again be patient, for the handle surround i had to use screws and big washers to attatch it back on as it kep falling off, was only on one side though

i am going to get a guide done at some point

no way lol i had a right job with the material last time i was stressed to bits lol

the rest was fine though, tryed epoxy resin to get them back together first but that wasnt setting for some reason
