turbo easyer to DIY than supercharing.

personally id charge as the power delivery is better than turbo.

All of the above really depend on two things - how much you have to spend, and how much power you want.

Either can be cheap, but they're probably not going to be reliable. Although a DIY turbo will in general be cheaper than a diy s/c. What you need to uprate depends on the amount of power you go for (and to an extent - which route you go down). Value for money - neither will be cheap - but forced induction is the best money for bhp way to get power.

im going to be supercharging out of te two the simple reaon being what ryan said about the power delivery, makes the car more drivable and is less stressful on the gearbox.

with turbo the power needs to be built up but when it does is more than a supercharger would be in the same rpm range.
a supercharger has a constant flow of power which is better for constant power aka power thats always there

i hope you realise without a budget in mind then you willend up spending a hell of a lot,
i know that si on ssc is hopeing for about 300ish bhp@wheels wich is roughly 370bhp@fly.
but with that power you have to upgeade the gearbox, shafts,brakes etc etc.
its not simple.

how long it lasts depends on spec, power and most importantly who maps it.

right, a very basic conversion would cost around £3000 i would think.

as for the over 300bhp your talking about £6k just in parts.

Too be honest - its far too ambiguous a question to give you an answer. Turbo will give you more power than s/c - but in saying that there is both a s/c and a t/c saxo that both will be over 300 bhp @wheels.

Not including the s/c, intercooler, pipework and injectors - in order to make mine reliable i have also bought;

Pace radiator, KMS with wideband and display, Quaife LSD, Pugsport clutch, Group N engine mounts.

And thats still running low-ish boost as i haven't got round to getting forged pistons.

On top of that, the rest of the car has had lots spent on it in order to make the chassis capable of the engine. 4 pots, custom springs, billie shocks, cage, torsion bars, ARB.

The only thing that you've told us is you want reliabilty. Other than that, you've mentioned you don't want to spend thousands. So i'm taking it that you want to spend £3k tops. From there - you can work out that you'll be running a low boost setup. For reliability i would definatly go standalone and uprated clutch. Thats £1800+ out of your budget. So hope you can find parts cheap or DIY

ive been following your progress on ssc, very nice mate i really like your car

lets hope he realises that boost is not cheap full stop, especailly when wanting power and reliability lol

Definatly not. And worse than that - its addictive. Currently trying to work out the spec of my new engine, and other than the fact its gonna cost around the £2k mark - i'm not really further forward. That's not including the few hundred i've spent on uprating the whole fuel system and moving the battery. Or for any headwork that the car deserves.

so are you going to be sticking with the 8v engine? because im sure you mentioned in ur thread about a sneaky 16v?what power are you hoping for mate, and what size charger are you using?84?

Running a C30/74, restricted to about 9/10psi (0.6/0.7 bar). With the new engine it'll be unrestricted.

Power wise - i've never really chased figures. 200@wheels sounds a nice round figure. Weather i get that or not i'm not really bothered - as long as it drives well.

I'm hoping to stick with the 8v. I'm in the process of trying something that (AFAIK) hasn't been attempted before with it. If that works out - IE if its possible - then i'll be sticking to 8v. However if it doesn't - i really don't see the point of sticking with 8v, when i could get a 16v block with JP4 head with manifold sorted for under £1k, slap some forged pistons in and a good 230 @wheels. So its either unique and not hugely powerful, or the same as most with the same power as most.

Why would you even wish to get that amount of power out of a Saxo?

i think 200 atw is easily plenty, i bet it flys now lol.when going ahead with mine i hope to use a c39 94 then restrict it until i get a "proper box" sorted.

beleive it or not, even with 200bhp with the right mods it will still be drivable and very very fast.charged saxo/106 are very underestimated.
