Big Valve head

  1. #1
Is it possible to just upgrade the standard VTS valves for bigger ones? or would the better to get a 206 head and stick it on my VTS bottom end ?

You can't just put bigger valves in without making the ports any bigger...

There's nothing wrong with a 206 head, but remember, if you just plonk it on, it's not going to have had any performance modifications to it, such as gas flowing, porting, etc.

have have it skimmed to increase the compression

    Free power...

I was planning on buying a 206 head, getting it gas flowed and ported, proably have the valve springs changed, cammed and skimmed, then whacking it on with some high comp pistons

you will need to change the valve springs and use vts followers iirc anyway. as the 206 valve springs are soft as shit.
make sure you work out compression ratio witht the 206 head and vts h/c pistons, and whatever head gascket you are going to be using.

BV heads are 750+ vat from qep but very very well set up and proven on flowbench and dyno etc..

id fit one, but your pistons will need rebating/forgies.

Why would need modified pistons with a BV head?

valves with most cams will hit the pistons from what i was told. obvioulsy depends on duration/lift, but no point going mild cams if spending £900 on a head.

id want some good head for £900

i hear up north good head is only a tenner???

marc you read about the new spec head from qep now additional time has been spent on flow bench/dyno with georges engine?

havent been on the net for a while so havent read anything.

if you have my skills head is free up north just gotta find the classy ladies lol (ryan) aka northern slags

lol. yep noticed you had been quiet, go check georges on ssc, done some fgood stuff with qep and the dyno
  14. #14
    on my way.

    what page is it on?

erm think it starts on 20. not 100% theres lots of posts by pumaracing on the development work. when the catcam 734s are being used.

does any1 know whether a vts head would just be able go on to my vtr i thought it would be ok but some people have told me it won't.
    wb asap thanks

quick answer is no , long answer is not without a lot of (pointless) work.

TBH correct me if am wrong, but its pointless having a big valve head, if you aint TB, turbo/charging it, this is where it will benefit the most, just having it done with all the usual mods, its not really worth it...

Sure someone will correct me if am wrong

    You're right Leeroy.

I've got a BV head, but I'm not reaping the benifits as of yet as I'm still on stock intake. Still, N/A tuning has a lot to do with flowing of gases, so the bigger valves, i.e., bigger ports will allow for a larger quantity of air / fuel to be slammed into the cylinders. IIRC, the BV heads from QEP and HiFlow only increase the valves for the inlet side.

Might be a big valve head next month, got 6 weeks training so ill send it off and have a nice present when i get back!
