how do the garages actually remap your ecu to your cars configuration?

I always thought that garages actually remapped the ecu to your cars own configuration so would actually need your car. But ive been in contact with two garages and they have mentioned sending my ecu away to be remapped?

Please could someone enlighten me to how this would remap my ecu to my cars configuration if they dont even have my car?

any help would be very appreciated as my car is in great need of a remap and i need this doing

    Thanks Dean

if it gets sent away to be remapped, its shite.

As Gabb so bluntly put it - unless they map you're car whilst the ECU is running your engine and they are connected to it - you may as well buy an Ebay resistor.

To map a car properly - you need to be mapping the car whilst its running, either on the road or preferably on rollers. Done any other way and it really isn't getting the best out of your car - resulting in power performance or worse.
