Most commen fault in a saxo vtr/vts/1.0/1.4 engine? (DISCUSSION TOPIC)

    I have seen alot of people asking about idle problems etc etc and most of it comes down to the coil pack and lambda sensors even I have asked questions myself.

    I would like to know what really is the most commen faults with saxo engines be it something that has happend to your saxo or maybe to a friends?

    Alarm ultrasonics on the vts!

    Engines are pretty good to be fair to shitroen, there is alot of worse engines out there

    i agree but there is a hell of alot of threads floating about on topics such as idle problems, car cutting out etc etc that to me tells me there must be some faults in the engine if loads of these threads keep popping up even I have added a thread about coil packs lols.

    im just curious to see how many times certain problems people say pop up in this thread as it will clearly show what issues there are and maybe people can add to this thread the solutions to the problems instead of loads of people posting the same threads over and over and over

    if were getting all technooo i quess its the electrics most the time which i would conisder part of the engine

    ive got a heater fan problem as well which ive spent quite alot trying to fix, flushed system, bled valves, had it diognostic checked everrryyythhhhinngg but it stil there.. only thhing i havent done is a compression test but ive lost no performace or anything

    thats a new one to me never heard that problem before.

    other problems I know of and heard loads about

    -air bag light coming on usally its the cables under your seats
    -seats coming loose and wabbling
    -front wings always seem to dent themselfs lol
    -fuel pump problems
    -sun roof leaking


    there just a thew I know and have heard of on most saxo models.

    Saxos have always been built to budgit really... so some people do get those 'Monday morning' cars! The engine should never really fail as long as its serviced (And i mean by a real mechnaic... not dave up the road!)

    But yeah electrics are always a problem usually. Sometimes i think its the same accross all cars. I had a intermitent fault on my clio with the PAS... it would flicker on and off and turn itself on and off... it always made it interesting going round a round about at speed lol! Never did find out what was wrong with it!


    in my honest opinion, i think enthusiasts (E.I all the saxp members) should be true enthusiasts! So when something goes wrong with the engine they have atleast a roguh idea of what is or was. rather than just saying it worked fine yesterday... So maybe part of the problem is the users, making it harder for the helpful ppl to problem solve

    Sorry for picking the thread to bits there mate! But its going to be hard putting it together since everyones problem will sound different depending on how its typed out!

    they are bomb proof near enough I know the 1.1 alloy mpi blocks take 18psi f boost quite happily

    least im seein a pattern here most people are saying Coil pack.

    which of course usally makes your idle poo to along with the idle control unit been shagged.

    so Nij how much did you pay for your coil pack?
    I paid £64 for mine brand new of course.

    1. alternator packed up
    2. battery kept dying
    3.have to have the sidelights on to listen to my music otherwise it says error on my head unit when i press the brake! (dodgy electrics)
    4.got a slight oil leak
    5. airbag light

    thats whats happened to my vtr since last august not to bad i dont think could have been so much worse.

    can be arsed to read all the posts. but id say there are no problems with teh engine apart from leaky rocker cover seals. its the electronics that cause most the problems imo.

    stepper motor and coil pack, it like citreon have desinged them to go around the 70-80k mark lol.

    ive gone though 3 stepper motors, and my mate 2 lol

    my god coil pack six people so far have said about them having problems.

    this tells me can someone put the codes up to buy them from citreon.
    as there are two coil packs for a vtr black plug and a grey plug version.

    I read a review of Saxo in a what car or something similar mag apparantly the only problems it suffers from is ignition problems and exhaust...

    nope, it works alright comes on everytime i go for a little drive or a long drive comes on when im sitting in traffic comes on when i turn the car off and leave it alone, i havent had one jurney which is less then 10 miles where it hasnt come on.. it will heat over half way extreamly quickly

    try rebleeding the rad make sure you undo the small breather at the back of the engine typical citroen design LOL! To fill the rad cut a two litre coke bottle in half and use it as a header tank keep filling until water comes out of the small bleed nipple near the back of the engine that i said to undo then stop and syphon excess fluid out down to maximum level in the rad. Hope this helps mate any questions pm me.

    mine probably fuel pump (atleast i think that's what it is) sometimes feels like not gettin enough fuel in.
    or electrics but you get that with most cars dont ya?

    apart from that i dont really have many problems at all/

    AGHHH.. for the sake of 24 quid get a propper header tank that ensures that NO air is getting it causing you bleeding problems...

    got a vtr and ive replaced the main heater fan, fan switch in radiator, got system checked before just to make sure and found radiator wire was broken lol since not had any problems except the shit battery fitted by the past owner replaced my cars looking up ull see

    the most annoying problem with my saxo is when the immobiliser chooses to not turn off! some people have told me its the transponder aerial but the garage are still trying to work it out!

    my coil pack has broke, battery light flashes on and off sometimes on bumpy roads and passenger electric window broke so I would say electrics

    As mentioned before, the coil packs are pretty sh*te on Saxo's. Ive been researching into why my car wont idle properly with misfiring issues etc and along the way I have found out that Sagem make a coil pack for the Saxo (supplied as a genuine part from Citroen) thats prone to spiking and ECU and frying it.

    A word of advice, if you are looking at replacing your coil packs, make sure they are manufactured by Bougicord and NOT Sagem, despite whether you're buying them from Citroen or not :-)
