Fastest Saxo

  1. #1
Ive read alot about people sticking turbo's and supercharging vts engines, as well as transplanting 2litre engines in to saxo etc - but can anybody tell me what they think would be the best option for making one of the fastest saxos?

obviously putting a bigger engine in is alot of work and can greatly affect the handling and weight, but i bet someone out there has found a powerful engine that would fit fairly easily in a saxo that would give it alot more power without affecting it in a bad way?! Surely a good set of coilovers could be adjusted to accomadate for a bigger engine?

If not, would maxing out a vts engine give you a saxo that would be in the same league as m3's or scoobys?

Need as much info as possible, im sure you guys know enough

Id say its proberly best to keep the 1.6 16v lump and play wiv that! bigger enngines more weight... Super charging, then turbo charging, wiv a lil touch of the wet stuff, that should see that the block is quick enough! obvioulsy uptrating everything from the suspension to the pistons/cams etc would need doing... look at the super1600 saxo.. amazin!

the VTS engine fills the space nicely. so just adjust that lump.

and thats naturally aspirated! but expensive tho.. i think it cost arounfd the £25k mark if my memory servs me corrrectly!
  4. #4
i remember seeing a video of a saxo racing a m3 was amazingly quick.. would love a saxo that quick

i dont think this was using NOS either.. if u got enuff £££ anythign can be achived

yep, twin turbo a twin VTS engine RWD saxo....... fcukin mental... plenty of £££ needed tho... LOL

m3's and scoobys already get owned by saxos.

Cheers for the info guys. I dont think il be going for the two engine job, but the turbo sounds good.

Im not that clued up on boring out engines, but i read you can bore a vts out to about a 1.8 or something? what does this involve and can you still perform all of the other engine mods if this is done?
  8. #8
its not the best idea to bore it out! as the block is paper thin anyway so to speak! if your lookin for big big gains supercharge then add the waasssttssshh that every1 loves

maybe possible to get a slight rebore like the RS Turbo boys, say to 1650cc or 1675cc? you'd then need oversized pistons (forged and low compression),loads of headwork, cams decent exhaust/manifold would see decent power. even more if you added stand-alone engine management such as Motec etc.
  10. #10
i would personally mod the vts engine as you can get big power gains out of it.Andy of ssc got 230 or 235 at the wheels of his saxo by supercharging

i wudnt expect ur insurance company to pay out if u mangle yourself

    just so u know
  12. #12
yeah does anyone know about insuring a saxo turbo? simo?

Also can anyone give me a list of what they reckon would be the best route to take, from a standard vts?

    ie was looking at (cituning)

    - Entry Level Turbo Kit with Intercooler, 5th Injector Kit, & Water Injection Kit

    - Modified Head and Cams

    - De cat exhaust system (manifold is included in the turbo kit)

    - Dump valve and boost gague kit

what else would be worth doing?

dam Vauxhaul ppl!!! my NO WAY! was arcasm! lol
  18. #18
that would be sweet tho. completely different mouting points etc, same problem as most transplants.

Any additions to the list on my last post?
  19. #19
i have a supercharged saxo vts with head work, zaust system, chip, with many more mods and i pay £1000 fully comp with adrian flux

    r u 55 with a estate worth, 1.8billion or sumthing!
  21. #21
    have 5 years ncd,but got 6 points on license.cheap wouldnt u say,only 22 pal
  22. #22
what about putting throttle bodies on the vts engine?
  23. #23
yep, entirely possible, but i think you'd be limited to about 170-180bhp without going the forced induction route. saying that, the saxo super 1600 rally car had about 220bhp on throttle bodies, but you'd need steel crank and rods, stupidly-high-compression pistons(13:1), wild cams, shit load of headwork and stand-alone engine management.
  24. #24
pug performance say they do a 230 bhp throttle bodie conversion.they recommend to go for throttle bodies over the turbo and supercharger
  25. #25
they may well do, but it'd cost a lot more to get 230bhp using throttle bodies than it would by super/turbocharging.
  26. #26
they said it costs around the 10 g mark, but they are claiming it will beat any turbo or supercharged saxo
  27. #27
    10Gs man! buy a porsche!
  28. #28
it'd maybe beat a turbo/supercharged saxo at the top end, but a 230bhp 1600cc naturally aspirated engine would hardly have any idle, and would make it's peak power at something silly like 6000rpm meaning you'd have to rev the shite out of it. turbo/supercharging would give better low-down torque and better driveabililty. 230bhp on throttle bodies would be better suited to a dedicated track car.
  29. #29
    where's my edit button gone?!?

also using a turbo/supercharger to get 230brake on a vts engine would cost a few grand less than 10grand,then there's the cost of uprated 'box, driveshafts, clutch etc.
  30. #30
a tad to expensive for the bodies i would say
  31. #31
A supercharger is the best option now lag plenty of BHP! job done....

i personaly would want the Pttsshhh! its worth the wait!
  32. #32
it is possible to put a dump valve on a supercharger, it just isn't as necessary as on a turbo. anyway, as long as you stuck with a sensible turbo, say a T2 or T25, and not something silly like a T4 and got a decent inlet cam, then lag would be minimal anyway. and i think there's more scope for bigger bhp with a turbo.
  33. #33
soon to be a t4, stand alone, 6 speed saxo about
  34. #34
scott are you talking about bucky on ssc or is his an ax?

i can't imagine throttle bodies gaining the same as forced induction tbh, and to spend 10k on tb's is crazy as you could have a supercharged engine running more that 230bhp(@fly) for ~10k?
  35. #35
yes mr buck on ssc. used to have an ax now has mk2 saxo. Did you see the pics of his downpipe
  36. #36
i am hoping to go onto stand alone but dont know what system to go for,can anyone recommend what to go for
