alrite ppl, am in the process of purchasing a set of cams for my vts. what is the best option to go for, ie newmans, cat cams, 708's etc

cat cam 708 newman phase 3 (and kent 285?)
    are all very similar cams

there good for a bit of power and keep the car driveable

there was a groub buy earlier but the guy from newman cams had agreed to extend it. you can get some newman's for £225incVAT posted, see sticky

catcams 809's ftw but then you need to spend alot of money.... alot of people use 708's they are good cams.

    its pt51s lol

    and piper 285s.

id go for cats or newmans for the price and performance they give.

809s your looking to run bodies with them so quite wild

809's all the way. high comps, tb, solid lifters, standalone ect. You will love that.

im sure the phase 3s will be the compromise between not a massive difference and going solids.

someone will have to fill you in on that model. 708s if in doubt though
also depends what your final plans are and what spec you want to end up with?

Depends how far you want to go. If its a road car id stick with 708s and remap

Is there a cam in between 708's and 809's?

I want to keep driveability and i wont be getting TB's (he says) but everything else will be done and maybe a new ECU so i can run different maps.

Want a decent set of cam's to match this setup but not too wild?

    715s, and 734s.

    715s people dont rate.

734s people do but you need big cut outs in the pistons for them

and the reason you have TBs is to enable you to keep driveability on a wild cam really. Just get 708s and not worry about big cock figures if you are keeping std inlet etc...

the phase 1 is only a slight improvement over a normal road cam
imo its not worth the cash
the phase 3 is more fast road/slow track
    so gives better power gains

u will get ph3 for 225 quid delivered if u ring newmans an thats a bargain
  17. #17
yea the newmans seem to be good value for money! i i hadnt got cat cams 708's 4 a good price then i was gona gt newmans ph 3's!!
seem sot give 145-160 bhp when mapped!!
this depends in induction kit, head work etc...

depend on your need, keep hydraulic is better, unless
you got a super1600 like project, and you need every
thing right to let you solid perform, or it will be a
    waste.

road uses or rev under 7K choice 708 is a good idea,
because it give you a smooth accelerate, PH3 is a
little like 708 but no detail dyno refer on hand, usually
708 can reach 190hp maxi, then you need 734 to
another 10hp, of course TB, Hi comp, BV, headwork...
    everything need to be match.

forget about the 715, there are just few hp higher
than 708, but lose lots of low end torque than 708.
