can you take the thermostat out of your car and drive as normal?

i have a vts and the temp is fluctuating between half and 8/10th's up the temp gauge.it used to sit dead on half when i was driving and then go up to near 3/4 up before the fan would cut in.changed the cooland and there is no air in it so i think the thermostat is closed a little and is obstrucing water

what are the cons of having no thermostat.will the car just run cold for longer or will it play havoc with the feuling or whatever

is it a big job to replace it?

Don't do it! It will take ages to warm up and burn loads more fuel in the mean time. If you are going to take it apart to take it out you might as well replace it with a new one.

I strongly recommend a genuine Citroen one though. They are about a fiver more than the cheap ones but, because they seal properly when they are shut, the engine warms up lots quicker which is better for the engine and saves fuel too.
