Knocking under accelaration and turning

  1. #1
As per title, when turning and when reversing (at low speed) I have a knocking sound coming from the front end of the car.
It doesn't make any sound whilst driving in a straight line or under braking.
If I let the car free-wheel around a bend the sound doesn't occur, only when i accelerate.

    Definite driveshaft issue??

Need to get this sorted soon as the cars going up for sale and don't really want to sell it in it's current state.

Could well be mate, jack it up and have a look, its the only way to be sure, check it over for leaks and play, if it looks fine have a check of everything else on that side too, check for anything loose or perished as in bushes being perished or worn and any bolts etc loose.

If it is the driveshafts causing the problem, will it be a garage job or is it something I could sort out myself?
I'm pretty good with a tool kit so I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty.

Yes very easy to do yourself mate, just strip everything else down like the caliper off, disc off, hub nut off, undo lower arm bolt, steering arm bolt and the 3 screws on the top of the strut i slackened slightley giving me some play in the strut and hub to pull off the driveshaft and then its a case of pulling the driveshaft out of the gearbox and putting new one in and doing it all up again.

Might want to drain your gearbox oil first or if you have another pair of hands be quick and get the new one lined up underneath and get them to push it in whilst your pulling the other out.

Its all in the haynes manual if you have one mate

    Sounds fairly simple.
Might give this ago in the next week or so.
I'll sort my camera out and try and sort a "How2" out.

    Cheers for the advice.
