Cams

Im having my big end bearing fixed on sat by a family friend who is a mechanic and he told me he wont have to take the whole head off like with most cars as on saxo's you can get to it from underneath if you take the oil sump off.

anyway I was wondering if you have to take the head off to fit performance cams as I have been thinkin about if for a while now and which cams are good for a mk2 vtr silver top engine. (make of cams would help and where I can get them from)

Im not good at the mechanical part so is fitting cams a big job (taking head off) or is it just a case of taking the rocker cover off lol.

rep will be given for good answers.

You dont need to remove the head for either.

I've never swapped a cam on the TU engine but I'd imagine once the belt is off and you've unbolted the rocker assmely it'll just piull off its journals.

just noticed someone has already asked the same question a while ago but the answers dont really help me need to know - make off good cams, place I can purchase them, average fitting price, how long it would take a good mechanic as I know one lol, if would run ok 4 a while with no remap.

Basic OHC rules lad. Cam is above the head. On the TU, the rockers are above the valves. Remove rocker assembly and the cam will be visible. You'll then be able to see wether or not you need to take the head off to get the cam and pulley of it's journals.

    I'm 99% sure you dont.

I'm not 100% FFS, lol. TU gays.

Either way, head off isn't a massive job if you do have to. Just digging my hole
