DVD Screen in dash **Progress Thread**

  1. #1
After installing my DVD player in the glove box, I decided to build the screen into the dash. I have taken a couple of photo`s of where I am at so far! I will update as and when I get more bits done!

This is how I started!! I have removed the top air vent to accomodate the screen, Next I cut away part of the outer frame (photo`s to follow)

This is how the screen will look when installed.

Have you thought about moving the buttons under the vent and moving the screen downwards? As it will be quite high otherwise.

Will the screen be removable? - Either way get yourself a good alarm!!

One question.. why did you install dvd player in the glove box? You could have bought a CD/DVD headunit.. (without screen).. then hooked up to that monitor that your proposing to fit. You could you extra space in the glovebox to locate DVB-T box or games console..

I've fitted a motorised 7" Din monitor in my Saxo purely for ease and that fact thats its alot more expandable with 2 AV channels its enabled me to use my DVB-T box..

I would have done this but I was bought a really nice Alpine head unit to run my ipod for christmas so I didn`t really see the point of forking out out to replace a new top of the range head unit. I know what you are saying but there is always space under the seat for a PS3!!

Under the seat is fine as long as you dont suffer from typical Saxo problem of leaking water and wet carpets!

Nice little idea.. keep us updated..

Will do mate, not sure what to do with the back at the moment as the screen is square but the top of the dash is curved .................could be interesting!!

Look up making fibreglass audio installs.. You'll have to use the same principal to create a moulded shape transfer back into the lines of the dashboard..

Basically by adding a shell the the back of the centre console and then covering in material and fibreglass resin over the top..

I was thinking along those lines, but having no experience in fibreglassing I might have bitten off more than I can chew!!

It can be a bit messy!! Just read up and make sure you have some idea what your doing, take your time and defo dont try and move onto the next step before product has fully dried properly..

Cool, thanks for the advice, watch this space.......................................

one way as mentioned is to relocate the buttons like this pic

to continue it the way you have done it i would make a thin woodern surround and back plate. then use some woodern rod to hold it in place. apply some fibre material over it so it is tight then add fibreglass resin to it. the material with then go hard allowing you to add p38 body filler to it so you can sand it to the desired shape

Those position for hazard switch and demister are genius!!
  14. #14
That looks soo nice...... is that yours? Where they have relocated the switches is where I have built a dock for my ipod! That looks mint must have taken ages!

For the switches you could relocate them all and use metal toggle switches.
You could put them next to the interior light, by the sunroof.
This was an idea i played with...
